[2] The Last Supper: Invigilator

You Huo kicked the metal can of charcoal over and Old Yu carefully used it to start a fire. The fire in the fire stove emanated an orange-red glow.

Yu Wen squatted next the fire and dejectedly threw wood in.

"Well... that's better than nothing... if they can't answer the question, at least they should make themselves more comfortable... maybe they'll think of something then..."

The flames flickered as he watched it for a while. He decided that he should go find someone to talk to about his feelings before he died but, when he looked up, he saw his brother standing on the side warming his hands with a cold and disinterested expression.

Yu Wen considered it for a few seconds and decided to die quietly instead.

Some people choked and chortled. Even without his past memories and experiences, You Huo was scary; still was scary. The only one who ever dared to defy Invigilator A was Qin Jiu... and even he didn't dare test You Huo's patience half the time.

You Huo, the scariest, strongest invigilator... compared to his scared younger brother, fresh out of high school, Yu "less reliable than a dog" Wen...

How could they be related? It seemed almost impossible, their personalities being on both sides of the spectrum...

"If you don't want your brother," Chu Yue spoke up, "I'm taking him."

You Huo glared at her.

"Umm that..." Old Yu suddenly spoke.

You Huo glanced over.

"I don't know how I should refer to you." Old Yu patted the pregnant woman's shoulder: "With a stomach like that, how can you freeze here? This isn't right, go over there to warm up. Don't catch a cold. It's not good for both you and your child."

"Oh yeah..." Everyone's mood immediately fell upon being reminded that the System in the future was far more brutal than the one they were facing now.

Suddenly remembering that they also had a pregnant lady in their midst's, some of the examinees turned to the young lady, "Miss..."

That immediately got all the other invigilators' attention, and the trio shared a look; they were originally going to figure out what this system really wanted... but since the examinees already decided to talk about this pregnant woman...

Much to their surprise... Shu Xue looked exactly like the pregnant woman being shown.

"Name?" Qin Jiu asked.

"Ah..." The lady pushed some hair behind her ear as she cradled her stomach, "I'm Shu Xue-"

"Shu... Xue...?" A voice rang out, and a middle-aged man stood up to get a better look, "You're not... how..."

The man looked like he seen a ghost, "How are you not dead!? I... I saw... the hands..."

Everyone immediately froze, and Shu Xue looked down, touching her face gingerly, "I... I'm not sure... I was-"

A red beep rang out from the invigilators' and 154's monitoring devices, and Shu Xue froze while the invigilators all cursed, looking like they were contemplating murder.

You Huo narrowed his eyes, and concluded, "A bug then."

He saw no point in asking any more questions. Shu Xue was clearly a normal examinee who encountered some sort of bug, giving her this new "pregnant" state; since it was censoring her... then was 154 also some sort of bug as well?
