"Well... that happened..." A moderate groaned as she rubbed her eyes tiredly. That exam... it definitely had been something.
Finding out that the NPCs were actually examinees that had been assimilated into the System... no matter how many times it happened, it was something that they would never be able to get used to.
Some people had started squirming in their seats, having been sitting down for way too long; they weren't hyperactive or anything, but being in the System for any amount of time would make anyone nervous and anxious about sitting in one place for too long, even if they were in a relatively safe location like the Rest Stops, especially with the dread of yet another treacherous exam looming over the horizon.
Luckily, Chu Yue was far too understanding, and let the others go stretch their legs and take a break for the night. She watched as the examinees exited the room, chattering amongst themselves and trying to see if someone had a done an exam that they were currently stuck in so that they could compare notes.
021 and 078 staying behind to wait for the rest of the invigilators and reserve invigilators, and Shu Xue looked like she wanted to stay behind, only for the invigilators to shoo the reserve invigilators out as well.
Surprisingly, despite usually being quite talkative, Wen Yuan had been rather quiet, and Chu Yue would have missed him leaving the room completely if not for the striking golden eyes of his companion that reminded her of You Huo, before she turned to the other invigilators, and smiled, "So? Aren't you guys going to go rest up?"
"I mean... sure, but..." A moderate sighed, "I know the System was bad... but... to this extent..."
"I'll admit, I didn't... maybe it was because we became invigilators before all this started, and we were never really around the exams enough to notice..." Zhao Jiatong shook her head, frowning, "I never imagined that..."
It was obvious what she was trying to say.
The System had originally started out as a simple military testing center... and even if examinees failed or "died" in the exams, they should still be able to exit the exam, reflect on their mistakes, go through some courses to brush up on some skills, and try again next time.
There should have been plenty of options for examinees who weren't successful... and none of them should have consisted of assimilating examinees, dead or alive, into the exam centers and turning them into their NPCs.
Heck, they didn't even know where the System even got the idea for this in the first place...
Many of the hardliners were about to retort, but they restrained themselves. This wasn't the moderates' faults for not noticing something like this... and it wasn't like the hardliners knew either, being far too focused on trying to not fucking die back when they were examinees.
They all resented the examinations and wanted to destroy the System... but there was just nothing they could do. They had no idea where to even start dismantling the System, and even if they were able to come up with a plan, the System had its eyes and ears everywhere, and would probably smite them on the spot.
You Huo, Chu Yue, and Qin Jiu had even tried something... only to fail miserably to the point where You Huo and Qin Jiu had their memories wiped, with the latter ending up in the extensive care unit, and Chu Yue being demoted and possibly also getting her memories wiped.
Mere mortals just weren't meant to fight against omnipotent, all-powerful gods, not when the System could shape their whole reality, could get into their heads and alter memories, didn't even have a physical body that they could beat up.
There was just no winning here.
"Relax." Chu Yue shook her head, and put her hands on her hips, "You guys should lighten up a bit, de-stress a little. I know the situation isn't good, but there's no point agonizing over something we have no control over right now."
