(My first romance story! Squee! :3 Not really my forte, but let's experiment! Based on a true story.)
"Mark? Mark, honey? Where are you?"
"I'm right here. Hi, Paige." He wishes he could talk like that, let alone speak to her like that. Mark, 24 years old who went through a lot. His parents and siblings are gone and he has no friends. All he has was a glorious childhood. Loved by everyone, but at the same time was worried about him. Ever seen a loner? No, worst than that. He never spoke unless spoken to, which wasn't a whole lot. All he does now was to talk to himself. Almost as if he had separate personalities or if he wanted to talk like the pwoplw around him.
"Hey, remember our dance?"
"Don't remind me. That's all I've been thinking of for God knows how long!"
"Remember how you stood against the crowd? Saw me standing alone?"
"Well, you were one of the few people I call 'friend.' How could I not approach you? After what you done to me?" No response. Mark didn't talk about things he wanted to hear. It's almost as if he was actually talking to another person. "Sigh, I still sit in the corner, crying how I should have stayed longer. The ending was in poor taste. The best moment of my life and I just left without turning back. Dad told me you waved as I left."
"It's just a dance."
"More like a chance. Everyday, at Christmas, I wished for something I yearned for, even though I was oblivious to see it was in front of me."
"And that is?"
"When I was young, I could have it anywhere, but as I grew older, it just... didn't feel right... I stopped talking. I shut myself from the rest of the world. Soon enough, I shut myself from myself. i regained my sanity, but it was in fractions. I just want the wish to find me the right direction."
"And THAT is?"
"Just when I had it, I lost it again. I tried to find it, but it keeps pushing me away. Soon, I was forced to wish for it again..."
"What was your wish?!" Mark blinked while looking at the wooden floorboards.
"A best friend... or a lover... or at least someone..."
"Someone?"
"Someone like you..." If Mark could imagine Paige, she'd be blushing.
"Wow... just... wow... that was sappy and pathetic..."
"Heh, I'd knew you say that... But it's true."
"You are so sad... but thanks."
"I never knew myself for quite some time... Until I met you."
"Aww..."
"But enough about me, I wanna hear your side of the story." No answer. "Right... by myself... alone again..."
