(I haven't made a happy story here in a while. All my stuff is either sad, boring, or dry comedy. Here's, finally, a happily ever after.)

Knock, knock, knock. I wonder if she's home. That would be bad. I don't wanna ruin the surprise. The door opens by a muscular man. "Hello... Mr. Chance?"

"Ah, if it isn't the little trooper?" He was right. Well kinda. I'm a technician in the military.

"Mind if I come in?" Chin up, stand straight, and make eye contact. Always enter someone's home with respect.

"Sure. Come in." I stepped inside.

"Um... Can we sit down?" He looked at me funny.

"Sure?" As we sit down on new red leather couches, I recollect on what I'm about to say. "So, what's this all about?" I took a deep breath.

"It's about your daughter." Blank stare. His eyes widen.

"Don't tell me she's pregnant?" I nod no. "Oh thank god..." I wish he had more trust in me. "Then what is this about?" Clearing my throat, I prepare for what I was about to say.

"Your daughter... Emily..."

"Yes?"

"Sir, I have to admit, I'm nervous about being here today. There's a lot on my mind."

"You should see a therapist then. I'm not one of them."

"Haha, no. My health coverage already covers that. I just went last Tuesday."

"So what about Emily?"

"I... Sigh..."

"You want my blessing?" My eyes opened. How did he know? "I see it in your eyes. I had the same spark with my wife."

"You did? How?"

"Well, I couldn't tell my wife's father, Jamez, how I felt, so I put it in song."

"You're a musician?"

"Musician... ish... I only play the bass."

"That's better than me."

"Oh? What do you play?"

"Triangle." I joked. Emily's father laughed.

"I never knew that soldiers had a sense of humor."

"Actually, I'm a technician."

"So? Anyone in the military are soldiers at heart."

"So, can I have her hand?"

"If you sound more convincing. You're not doing a good job of selling yourself."

"Sorry, I'm just scared." He sighed.

"You love my daughter, right? Begin there."

"Sigh... Sir, your daughter is the sun to my world. We've been best friends since 3rd grade. We've dated since freshmen year. I asked her to go steady after senior year. I love her. I love her very much. Sir, I'm little bit nervous at first to say this, but you open your arms with good intent, accepting me. You must love your daughter as much as I do."

"You're doing better."

I grab into my pocket. I showed him a box. "You see, in this box is a ring, but she is the true gem in that ring. She is a diamond that'll never lose its luster. If you let me have her, I promise to always treat her right." He sighed and looks at the ground.

"It's more than a promise. It's a commitment. You'll be stuck with Emily forever."

"Is that supposed to be a bad thing?"

"It is whatever you make of it."

"Then I'll take whatever opportunity."

"Then you have my blessing." I jumped out of my seat with full excitement, shaking Mr. Chance hand.

"Thank you! Thank you!"

"So when are you gonna ask her?"

"After a walk on the beach."

"Make sure it's at sunset. Makes it more romantic."

"Thank you, Mr. Chance." The happiest day of my life is near. Tomorrow night, I'll make my proposal. What happens next... God knows...
