Lucas' POV
I wasn't sure if I was eagerly waiting for Lilian to come back and then I could go home, or if something else was bothering me. But while tapping my foot on the floor, looking in the direction of the room above, It had been a while since I sat in one place.
In this house. Not my house.
It's probably the quietness of the surrounding. Even that mana potion of mine was nowhere to be found.
And that dog. I could have sworn that he grew faster than I thought. A hybrid of a wolf or something? Well, sacred beast or not, I'd put a fork on him later if I got the chance.
I stood up and stretched my arms in the air, planning on taking a stroll around her backyard. She should be okay since I was not far from her— Hold on... Did I just prioritize her safety?
Right, Right. Part of the job, Lucas. It's just your job. Don't overthink, you idiot. I reminded myself.
I shook my head and got up. Just when I was about to go for a walk, I heard a click at the door then I saw the doorknob rotating. I didn't know I was clutching my fists until I saw that person, one of the house owners, smiling in my direction.
"She didn't come downstairs at all?" Lilian asked while unpacking the goods from the bag.
"Probably still asleep. Her cousin came to check on her a while ago too," I said as I went around to help.
I lifted a small bottle and studied the fever medicine she brought. I guess Lilian knew what she was doing.
"I will have to wake her up and take medicine."
"So I can go now?"
"Yes, and thank you so much, Lucas."
"Not a problem. Maybe I can drop by tomorrow again?"
"You are certainly welcome."

As morning arrived, I knocked on the door instead of using the bell. Not wanting to wake that sleepyhead up. A bark was heard, and the door was opened. Before I could walk inside, a black fluff jumped on me as a usual greeting.
Trying to bribe me with cuteness, I see. Sorry, bud.
And I still couldn't get over the fact that this lousy fur was spending the whole night, sleeping soundlessly with his master upstairs. His size was meant to be a guard dog, not some house pet.
Lucky Bastard. I cursed internally while staring at the dog that disappeared inside the house.
"Lucas? Are you coming in?"
I heard Lilian's voice. Oh right, she'd always been here.
I was just too distracted with thoughts that I was making a fool of myself.
I nodded and went inside as my eyes quickly scanned the entire house. And just to clarify, it's not like I'd been waiting for the sun to rise so I could make another excuse to go and see her or something.
I'd lowered my expectation before I came here and concluded that she would still be in bed. I wanted her to sleep, but I didn't want to stay in this house with the owner napping all day. I mean, what was the point of coming here?
Then, a glimpse of gold caught my eyes. I watched how she tilted her head left and right to the song's rhythm on the TV.
"What are you? A kid?" A peal of laughter escaped my lips when I saw her flinch at my voice.
"Good morning to you too."
I heaved my eyebrow slightly, questioning if she had gotten used to my presence already with the way she retorted in sarcasm without looking at me.
