Chapter 12: Must Resist

Everything was back to normal and normally, Athanasia would casually find an uninvited guest, sitting in the living room ever so comfortably. And he would Normally smirk at her when she made a face of disapproval.

"Morning, Princess," he greeted, then took a sip of the hot chocolate that Lilian prepared for him while he had to wait for Athanasia to get ready.

"Do you even sleep?"

"No. I am an owl. I only sleep at dawn."

"Ah! That makes sense. No wonder you always sleep inside the class."

"I was being sarcastic."

Getting used to his intrusion, Athanasia sighed and walked to the dining room where breakfast was newly served. She pulled out a chair, ignoring the person who followed her there. She tried to reach for a spoon, but it was snatched away by a certain guy.

He winked at her and she growled in annoyance before slamming her palms on the table as she got up. She extended her hand, but he raised the spoon above his head and stuck his tongue out. Enraged, Athanasia grabbed a fistful of his collar, making Lucas heave his eyebrow slightly.

"Play nice, Athy," said Lilian who walked by, handing Athanasia another spoon, then it was her turn to stick her tongue out at Lucas.

"Let's go!" said Athanasia, fueled by the morning breakfast as she tugged Lucas by the sleeve of his shirt outside.

"By the way, what with the extra homework?"

She let go of the fabric and shrugged and said, "It's just a bunch of tasks I had to complete before going home."

"He made you stay after class?"

"I deserve it anyway. And you better prepare yourself to meet him in his office today," said Athanasia as smirked at him but when she saw his expression, her smile disappeared, "Lucas?"

His expression softened the second he glanced at her and he made this 'Hmm?' sound.

"Ah, nothing. Let's keep walking."

The moment Lucas and Athanasia arrived, the chatter in their class stopped and all eyes were on them.

Athanasia nudged Lucas with her elbow. When he glanced at her, she tiptoed and whispered to his ear, "You sure stirred quite a commotion lately."

"So what?"

He shrugged and pushed her lightly on the back to start walking to their seat.

"Good morning Lucas," Helena, the only brave existing sou, sheepishly greets him. He grunted as an acknowledgment just because Athanasia instructed him not to treat other people like nonliving things. She added, "Ezekiel told us that you had errands last week. Was that why you were absent? And what kind of errand was it?"

Lucas switched his attention to where the young Alpheus was and they had a brief starring contest. Then he replied bluntly, "None of your business."

"Lucas! What did I say about talking to my friend with that tone!" said Athanasia.

"Ah- Sorry... I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say that you must have missed a lot of lessons. You can copy mine if you want... I don't mind at all..."

Lucas took another look at Athanasia before taking the books from Helena, then seated himself. He sat down and crossed his arms, but when he saw Athanasia turning around, his smile was already waiting for her. Disappointment quickly built up when she completely neglected his existence and only looked at the guy sitting right next to him.
