Chapter 21: Training

Tapping on the car's window to the rhythm of the song that was playing, Athanasia tilted her head left and right. She froze when soft laughter rang beside her.

"Tell me again where are we going?"

"Out? To the park?" Lucas answered nonchalantly. One hand was the wheel and the other maintained his temple.

"Lucas. We literally changed and jumped into your car right after school."

"What? I told you I would make it up for you right?"

"Don't you need to rest or something?"

"I don't need any rest," Lucas responded assuredly.

"I figure you gonna say that. And will you drive properly? Two hands on the wheel. Now."

"Alright alright...

"Anyway, why the park? We can just walk around the neighborhood as usual."

"I got something else in mind."

"And what is that?"

"Something fun. Just you and me." He smiled teasingly and glanced at her, only to see lots of question marks popping above her head.

"It's three of us. Raven is here too."

"How dense can you be?"

"Excuse me? Who is the stupid one? You can't even count properly."

"Definitely you. And I'm having you train Raven. I will help."

"Huh? You have been training Raven by yourself?"

"Nah. Not at all. The dog seems to magically learn tricks by himself."

"Do you want to be praised that much?"

"I know I deserve it."

"You sound like you need extra attention. More than Raven himself."

"Why not? Any attention from you is a must-have in my pitiful life." His lips curved into a smirk.

"Stop saying weird and random things... And your life isn't pitiful."

"Not until I met you."

What makes you feel that way?

She gazed into his blood-red spheres which she caught wavering. Athanasia was about to ask what she had in mind when Lucas interrupted her. "Plus, Raven deserves some rewards as well." Athanasia turned to Raven who was rolling around in the backseat.

"What did he do?"

"Protected you from pests when I was not there. So let's get him some treats after training."

"I seriously have no idea what you are talking about."

"You don't need to."Lucas extended one hand behind his seat and Raven nudged his head against his dad's palm. "My boy is the best."

"My boy? Excuse me. I am his mom. Not you. I found him."

"Well, I did find him the same day as you did. I wonder what that makes me." The smirk still lingered on his lips.

His question was fully apprehended by her. Athanasia mentally slapped herself for automatically giving him the Title.

Will I die if I jump out of the car right now?

"Sh-shut up and focus on driving..."

"Am I not? But, we are here." He killed his engine and opened the backseat door, putting Raven on a leash.
