Chapter 5

*Kakashi's POV*

Today is our last day off and we are off to doing different missions again starting tomorrow. I have been going to their flat everyday, making sure that Megumi's drinking her medicines, vitamins, and making sure that she is well rested.

Megumi is mostly very quiet but I know that she is listening attentively to all my stories. She would sometimes ask questions but she would never initiate to tell a story. She probably needs more time to be comfortable around people.

We spent most of our time reading the random books in their bookshelf and watching movies.

It's late in the afternoon and there is no food left in the twins' fridge. When I was getting ready to step out and do some grocery shopping for them, Megumi called out my name.

"Kakashi... It's alright, you don't have to buy the groceries for us. Mitsuki will be doing it later after school. What if I treat you to Ichiraku?" Megumi looked at me with a worry in her eyes. I wonder if she is worrying that I might reject the idea as she needs to rest at home?

"Sure! We can go to Ichiraku, eat some ramen, and I'll send you back home to make sure that you drink your meds and vitamins." I gave her a huge smile on my face.

*Time skip to Ichiraku*

*Megumi's POV*

"Ahh, Ichiraku serves the best ramen in Konoha! I am so full." Kakashi said, while putting back his mask on.

"Do you have to keep your mask on in front of me? I thought friends don't hide secrets." I asked him out of curiosity.

"I believe you have seen my face, Megumi. I have nothing to hide." Kakashi said and looked at me with a smile on his face.

It's true that I have seen his face before... I guess I just have to get used to it. Feeling defeated, I looked down. A bad habit of mine.

"If it's such a big deal, then I'll remove it when I am with you. Including now." Kakashi said it out loud and I noticed that some of the people eating at Ichiraku stopped what they were doing and looked at Kakashi.

When he was about to put down his mask, I immediately stopped it using my hands and held his hands closer to mine.

"You don't have to do that." I looked at him smiling but with sadness in my eyes. I have to tell him the news that I have received a few weeks ago.

"Kakashi, let's walk back home." I told him with a weak voice.

*Kakashi's POV*

I wonder if I have offended Megumi in some way. She has been smiling a lot lately, but I feel that something is bothering her. Before going back to their flat, we stopped by a park and sat on the bench facing a river with the view of the sunset.

We were both looking at the magnificent view of nature when she started to speak.

"I will be one of Danzo's anbu in the Foundation. I am to leave tomorrow for a mission until further notice."

Megumi continued to look straight.

"I really don't want to go... I want to continue my training with Minato sensei and be with you and Mitsuki... But Minato sensei said that I do not need training from him anymore and it will be best for Konoha if I joined the Foundation. Danzo personally spoke with him."

This time Megumi looked down at her hands as I looked at her in shock. Her voice sounds really sad. I just wanted to hug her close to me...

"I'm sorry Kakashi but I guess I won't see you for a very long time... I haven't told Mitsuki yet... And I'm not sure if I will be able to tell him. You have been a great friend and I will miss you. That's all I want to say for now."

She looked at me with a grin on her face but with tears in her eyes that were shaped like a smile. I immediately hugged her and stayed in this position for a couple of minutes.

Megumi did not want me to send her back home, as she said it would make it harder for her to leave tomorrow, and she still needs to talk to Mitsuki. I respected her decision and went home.

When I reached home, I climbed up to my bed, laid down and looked at the ceiling for hours. I cannot imagine years without Megumi. She has been a huge part of my childhood and she is my best friend.

I tried to remember the days when we were training together until I fell asleep.
