Chapter 8

*Kakashi's POV*

It's 5am and Mitsuki have sent one of his clones to ask me to come over as soon as possible. Because I thought something bad might have happened, I used my transportation jutsu and reached their apartment door in a blink of an eye.

I didn't have to knock. Mitsuki felt my presence and immediately opened the door. Mitsuki's face is the male version of Megumi's. However, Mitsuki likes to keep his dark brown hair in a shoulder length and tie them low.

Mitsuki's dark brown eyes caught my gaze, smiled and said "I'm sorry for the trouble, Kakashi. The 4th hokage have summoned me for a mission in the next 4 days. As you know, my sister still cannot remove the bandages until next week, and she needs some assistance. I do not want to leave her alone and you are the only one that I can trust. You have my permission to stay here in the apartment, feel at home, use my room and my clothes, as long as you'll behave and take care of my sister." Mitsuki stopped smiling and looked at me with with all seriousness.

"Of course, I will take care of her. Don't worry, Mitsuki." I told him and gave him a reassuring smile. Mitsuki smiled back and immediately left.

*Megumi's POV*

At around 5am, I heard a noise outside my room. I slowly found my way to my bedroom door and listened. It was Kakashi and Mitsuki talking.

I heard their conversation and all I could do was sit on the floor, my back against the bed, and placed my head in between my knees.

I have been a burden...

The reason why I wanted to become a great kunoichi is because I wanted to protect Mitsuki and Kakashi, not the other way around. The Yuki clan's kekkei genkai is very powerful and it is starting to destroy my body, starting with my eyes. But what can I do? Ice release is the only jutsu that I can fully control.

I started to feel useless with my eyes in bandages. I have no choice but to rely on people around me. Will I go blind if I remove these a week early?

Before I know it, I already started to panic and cry. It is the first time that I have cried for a very long time. The last time was when our parents died from the Yuki clan's massacre.

The tears won't stop flowing from my eyes. I could not stop sobbing. I feel terrible for being weak. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door and I heard it open.

"Sorry to barge in but I have to make sure you're alright. I heard some sobbing coming from this room. Are you hurt?" Kakashi said while putting his hands on my shoulders.

I have stopped crying and remained silent. Kakashi tried to find my chin with his hand and tilts it up.

*Kakashi's POV*

It's my first time to see Megumi cry. I should calm down and think of what to do. She doesn't look like she injured herself from a fall.

When I tried to tilt her head up, I saw that her bandages are all wet. Knowing Megumi for a long time, she must have felt useless for relying on me and Mitsuki. She hated that.

"You don't have to tell me. Let me at least change your bandages." I told Megumi and immediately replaced them with new ones.

Megumi have calmed down but still would not speak. I guided her towards the living room and she sat on the couch. Holding her hands and kneeling before her, I asked "What do you want for breakfast?"

She could not see me, continued looking straight and said "Nothing. I am not hungry at all." Her stomach started to growl after saying those words and I slightly chuckled.

"We can go out and eat brunch at Ichiraku but it would be hard for you to eat... What if I make a sandwich for you? Your choice." I asked with a smile.

"I think I will just have a sandwich then... Thank you Kakashi."

When I stood up and walked towards the kitchen, Megumi spoke again.

"Some anbu members are fetching me here today at
3pm. Lord Danzo would like to speak with me."

*Time skip*

*Megumi's POV*

I've been waiting here at Lord Danzo's office for a couple of minutes now. The anbu who guided me asked me to sit on the floor (seiza - formal way of sitting).

I couldn't help but think of how Kakashi is being very nice to me. I know that we have been great friends for a long time but he is willing to sacrifice his training hours to take care of me. I couldn't be more grate—

Before I could finish the word, I fell to my right side, hit my head on the floor, and felt a stinging pain on my left cheek.

I didn't even feel his presence in front of me. When did he get here? With the taste of blood in my mouth, I immediately sat in seiza and gave a bow - my hands on the floor, forehead close to the floor. I stayed in this position.

"Lord Danzo."

I waited for a moment before he finally spoke.

"I have ordered you to collect information at Orochimaru's hideout with no intention to kill. You almost slaughtered him. Which part of my order you did not understand?" Lord Danzo stepped on my hands and I could definitely feel his anger.

"I deeply apologize, Lord Danzo. It will never happen again." Lord Danzo continued to step on my hands and said:

"You are forgiven. You may stand now." I immediately stood up.

"I have called you today to talk about your upcoming mission next week. You will be sent to wipe out a small village in the north who are planning to attack Konoha in the next few years. You will be the captain and I expect you to plan this very carefully. It has to be done in one night. I'll be sending my 10 strongest anbus together with you." Lord Danzo put his hand on my shoulder and spoke again "There is no room for mistake in this, Megumi. Do not leave anyone behind. Not even the children. Do you understand?"

Blood still forming in my mouth... I swallowed it so I could speak clearly:

"Yes, Lord Danzo."

Lord Danzo tapped my shoulder three times, which meant that I'm doing a great job. I kept my head down until he left the room.

A few minutes later, the anbu who guided me inside, sent me back home using transportation jutsu.

*Kakashi's POV*

I have just finished cooking curry for dinner when I heard a knock. Megumi must be back from the meeting.

When I opened the door, the anbu was gone and she was alone. There were traces of blood in her mouth and her left cheek was pinkish and swollen. She heard that I opened the door and immediately used her hands to look for something to hold on to. I immediately offered my hands and guided her to the couch in the living room. Her hands have cuts and bruises. Did she go on a mission with her eyes in bandages?

"What happened?" I asked with worry in my voice.

"It is part of my job, Kakashi. I need a bath." She said in a cold tone.

I helped prepare her bath and we spent the rest of the day in silence. I know that anbu missions are top secret, especially in the Foundation, and there is no way Megumi is going to tell me nor Mitsuki what just happened.
