Chapter 23

*Writer's POV*

Kakashi and Megumi sat opposite to each other as they waited for Lord Danzo. Kakashi looked at Megumi through the holes of his mask, and saw that she have activated her icy blue eyes. She was looking down the entire time.

When Lord Danzo entered the room, the two did a quick bow to show respect. He sat at a corner, not too far from Kakashi and Megumi, and started to talk.

"Megumi, I applaud you for your recent mission. That was astounding and I couldn't be more proud. You always exceed my expectations."

Megumi continued to look down and said, "Thank you, Lord Danzo."

Lord Danzo lit up a cigarette and continued, "I heard that your brother turned his back on you and hurt you. I hope you understand that it is part of your job. Peace cannot be achieved without great sacrifices."

"I understand." Megumi said sternly. Kakashi saw her eyes closed for a bit and when they opened, she coldly stared at him.

Lord Danzo chuckled and said, "Good."

He paused to smoke for a bit and continued,

"Your next mission will be in Tanzaku Quarters. You are to slay their "God of Gamblers," his wife and 8 kids. He is a cheat and have corrupted a huge percentage of the government's money. It will be hard to prove that he is guilty, as there is almost no trace in his crimes. So, killing him and his entire family will be the easiest way to make all the money return to the government by default. He loves women, so you'll have to attract him with your body and your looks. This time, I do not care how you'll kill them all. The hardest part of this mission would be to get close to the "God of Gamblers," as he hired shinobis to guard him."

Lord Danzo paused and walked towards the two of them.

"Kakashi, your purpose it to assist Megumi but do not interfere. I expect both of you to clear this mission by the end of this week. Do you understand?" Lord Danzo asked and his voice was a bit louder this time.

"Understood!" Kakashi and Megumi said in unison.

*Kakashi's POV*

When we returned back to my apartment, Megumi immediately took off her mask. I grabbed her arm and turned her around to take a good look of her face. She looked at me with her dark blue eyes and smiled weakly.

He is turning her into a killing machine.

I took off all of my masks with one hand as I pulled her closer. I gently put her head on my chest and kissed the top of her head.

"You can tell me what you feel." I whispered to her.

"What I feel is not important... It never was." She said softly.

She let go of the hug. She looked at me with her weak smile, cupped my face in her hand for a while, and turned around.

I just stood in the same place as I watched her change her clothes and went straight to bed and sleep.

*Megumi's POV*

When I woke up, I saw Kakashi preparing breakfast.

"Kakashi..." I walked towards him and hugged him from behind. He held my hands around his waist with his other hand, and turned off the stove. He turned around and looked at me with a smile,

"What's the matter?" His smile changed to a worried look.

I don't know what I did for his sudden change of reaction. I smiled weakly and looked down.

"I'm scared of what I have become..." I saw tears drop from my eyes and couldn't stop sobbing again...

"Megumi, I'll always be here for you. There is still time to turn down this mission..." He said. My eyes grew bigger and looked at him,

"I will do it, Kakashi. I have to." I said while letting go of our hug and went to the bathroom to spend some time alone.

*Kakashi's POV*

It took a couple of minutes for Megumi to calm down. When she went out of the bathroom, she ate breakfast with me in silence.

"Thank you for the nice meal.. I'm going out for a while." She said while looking down.

"Where are you going?" I held her hand across the table and smiled.

"I'm meeting Itachi and Shisui for sparring..." She said while looking at our hands.

"The Uchiha kids, huh? Are they good?" I asked.

"They are better than you, Kakashi. See you later" She giggled, smiled at me, and left.

*Writer's POV*

Megumi wore Kakashi's clothes for the sparring. It was a black shirt and black pants. When Shisui saw her from afar, he ran towards her and said,

"Megumi senpai! Your clothes seem to look too big on you. Did you lose weight?" He curiously asked.

"Oh uhm, no. Actually these are not mine. Shall we start?" She said while smiling.

When Shisui was about to say something, Megumi's icy blue eyes suddenly got activated. She freezed her right arm, turned around and covered her face with it as a shield. There were flying kunais coming at her at a very high speed. She dodged all of them and send flying shards of icy needles towards Itachi, who initiated the attack and was hiding on one of the trees. The needles were very fast and they quickly poked through Itachi's body.

A clone.

Megumi felt a kunai near her neck.

"checkmate." Shisui said while giggling.

Megumi's entire body turned into ice and shattered into millions of icy needles wanting to explode soon.

"Itachi, run!!" Shisui yelled and warned Itachi.

The Uchiha boys found a place to hide, as Megumi's needles exploded and poked every single thing on its way and then melted, leaving small holes on the trees and on the ground.

"Megumi senpai, you cannot hide from our Sharingan." Itachi said as loud as he could.

Megumi appeared in front of the boys in a blink of an eye and pushed her hands outward, sending strong and freezing winds towards Shisui and Itachi.

They were able to dodge and Shisui caught Megumi's gaze. He immediately used his Mangekyou Sharingan. Megumi couldn't move her body. Shisui walked closer but to his surprise, she grinned.

Her eyes turned blurry, looking like real ice particles.

"I have learned how to escape your genjustu." Megumi said and smiled.

They continued to spar for the next couple of hours. Kakashi was observing in one of the trees. He is very amazed on how strong these boys are and how Megumi's able to fully control her ice release with ease.

She really is the strongest kunoichi in Konoha.

When their sparring ended, the two boys went back to the Uchiha compound. Megumi was left behind and looked at Kakashi.

"I knew that you were here the entire time." She yelled to make sure he can hear her. Kakashi appeared in front of Megumi in a second and hugged her.

"What are you doing? I am all sweaty!!" Megumi said in protest.

Kakashi giggled, let go of the hug, and held her hand as they walked back home.
