Chapter 17

*Megumi's POV*

My hands are now free but I can barely move. Maybe this is my time. Maybe I won't see Kakashi and Mitsuki ever again.

I have been lying down on the cold floor for the longest time, stabbing pain all over my body. It is so dark. I could only see darkness ready to take me anytime soon.

I activated my icy blue eyes and wanted to summon Emiko and see her for the last time but I just did not have enough strength to do the jutsu.

My brain is asking my body to move. But it just wouldn't. Tears in my eyes fell. This is hopeless. Minato sensei, what am I going to do now?

When I was just about ready to give up, I felt something lick my hand. Is this a... dog? Pakkun?

*Writer's POV*

When Kakashi and the others went inside the cave, Pakkun ran as fast as he could to the room where Megumi's in.

"She is in a very bad state. I can smell blood everywhere." Pakkun said. The rest of the team did not say anything and just continued running.

Pakkun saw Megumi first and tried to check if she was still alive. He licked her hand and her eyes half opened.

"Megumi!" Kakashi called and kneeled beside her body. She continued to look at Pakkun in a blank stare.

Mistuki and Kakashi were in shock seeing her. The shape of her bones can clearly be seen against her skin.

As Megumi's entire body is numb from the coldness of the ground, she did not realize that she was just in her undergarments. When Mitsuki saw her in that state, he immediately took off his white cloak and put it on Megumi.

Kakashi parted some of Megumi's hair that was covering her face and gently put half of her body on his lap. Her face was almost unrecognizable because of the cuts and bruises. He wiped away the tears in her eyes and hugged her close.

"wa-t-er"

Megumi said. It was softer than a whisper.

When she was about to drink, with the help of Kakashi, she remembered that she had blood inside her mouth all the way to her throat. She used all her strength to cover her mouth with her hands and coughed up the blood.

Kakashi's eyes grew bigger and couldn't help but shed a tear.

"We should go. She needs to be in the hospital as soon as possible." Mitsuki said in a flat tone.

After helping Megumi drink, he saw her staring at her, eyes still half open. He put his forehead on hers and spoke:

"Please, Megu... You are not to use your ice release. You need to conserve your energy. We are here now. I am here. I will protect you with my life." Kakashi said and sobbed silently.

Megumi closed her eyes and cried. She couldn't bear seeing Kakashi like this. She can take all the pain in the world but not this.

"Kakashi! We have to go!" Mitsuki said. It was an order this time. He was so worried about his sister but could not do anything.

Kakashi carried Megumi in his arms gently. She groaned softly and her face wrinkled.

"Are you okay?" Kakashi asked.

She did not have the strength to answer. They all continued their way back to Konoha.

2 hours have passed and they are still skipping on trees. Megumi, who was asleep, opened her dark blue eyes. She looked at Kakashi and said:

"S-stop"

Kakashi and the others stopped. Kakashi had put her down, her back against a tree.

"What's the matter?" Kakashi looked at her with worried eyes.

Megumi covered her mouth with her hands and started to cough up blood. It was so much and it's now all over her white cloak. She felt a ripping pain in her stomach, so she put her left hand there to ease the pain but she continued to cough up blood.

She felt so weak and her body fell to the right side but Kakashi caught her.

Mitsuki kneeled in one knee and touched Megumi's shoulder. He could only feel her bones.

"Megu, we are almost in Konoha. Just hang in there, okay?" Mitsuki gave her a sad smile. Megumi nodded and they continued their journey. Kakashi and the team tried to run as fast as they could, using up a huge amount of chakra just to reach the village in 45 minutes instead of another 2 hours.

The nurses and doctors were in panic when they saw Megumi's state. They immediately brought her to the emergency room. One of the doctors came to Kakashi and Mitsuki.

"She is losing a ton of blood. If you did not bring her sooner, she might have died. The perpetrator have broken her ribs and her chakra channels. That's why she kept on coughing up blood. Her arms and legs are fine but she is very dehydrated. We are working on fixing her chakra channels first. This will take a while. You don't have to worry too much, she will survive but if we are not able to fix her chakra channels, she won't be able to do any jutsu anymore. Thank you." The doctor said and went back inside the emergency room.

Kakashi and Mitsuki sat down at the waiting room in silence. They heard screams coming from the emergency room. She must be in a huge amount of pain.

The entire procedure took 15 hours. The doctor was sweating when he came out of the emergency room and walked over to Mitsuki and Kakashi.

"Great news, she is fine now. We were able to fix everything, including her broken ribs. She is in painkillers right now and she will have to stay here in a month as she lost a lot of weight and still very dehydrated. We will prepare her room now and will keep you updated." The doctor said and quickly left before Kakashi nor Mitsuki could say anything.
