Chapter 6

*Time skip to 3 years*

*Megumi's POV*

Today is my birthday. I am 10 today, which means Mitsuki is 10 today as well. I haven't seen him and Kakashi for 3 long years and I have been sent to different S-rank missions outside Konoha.

The hardest part of being an anbu is probably killing random people, knowing that they have their own families waiting for them back home.

I have learned summoning jutsu and some sealing jutsu during my free time being an anbu.

Even though I am part of a 3-man team, I have never considered my teammates friends. We are all professional and we spend our free time away from each other.

When I feel lonely, I always summon Emiko, a beautiful white arctic fox. She is like family to me and always checking if I am alright.

"Happy Birthday, Megumi! Thank you for summoning me on your birthday." She said while nudging her nose towards my face.

"Thanks, Emiko. Me and my twin brother are 10 today. I am missing him very much... I wonder when will I be able to go back to Konoha..." I closed my eyes and hugged Emiko.

"Well, we have a special mission tomorrow. Am I right? They said that it's going to be the toughest so far. If it's the hardest, then it's probably the last." Emiko said as she sat on my lap.

Tomorrow's mission is infiltrating Orochimaru's hideout. We need to gather as much information as we can. Kill Orochimaru, if we can. And not get killed, if we can.

After talking to Emiko for a few minutes, she returned back to her world and I went to sleep. I'll be needing lots of energy for tomorrow's mission.

*The next day*

*Megumi's POV*

Our team captain informed us that we will be able to return to Konoha after this last mission. And that is, if we are still alive. I am not scared to die but I am scared of not seeing Mitsuki and Kakashi forever.

I prepared my things, tied my hair in a high ponytail, put on my fox anbu mask, and our team immediately headed towards Orochimaru's hideout.

Orochimaru's hideouts all look the same. There were a lot of vacant rooms, laboratories with disgusting parts of human bodies or animals, and all rooms are very dark. It is hard to locate them in the hideout as well. Like there is some kind of a hidden passage. They would only come out if they'd like to show themselves to you.

"I think they have already escaped." One of my teammates said. He is from Aburame clan and can use insects to locate our targets.

"That's fine. I think I found something." I told them as I walked inside a laboratory with different types of scrolls on the table.

When I was about to collect all the scrolls on the table, I felt something behind me and it spoke "Not so fast, Megumi." It was a snake that transformed into Orochimaru. He hugged my waist with his left arm while his right hand was holding a kunai, ready to slice my neck anytime.

My eyes turned to icy blue behind my anbu fox mask, ready to attack but my teammates are nowhere to be found.

"I have killed them all. What are you gonna do now, Megumi?" Orochimaru angled his head and licked my neck with his long and slimy tongue. I know that he wanted to leave a curse mark on my body and I will not allow that.

There is no way for me to use hand signs without getting killed so I have used my eyes to turn Orochimaru's kunai into small ice particles. It took me quite a bit of strength to do that and I was able to escape his grip.

I am now in front of him and immediately made a hand sign, making my arms completely frozen, breaking the ice and sending the shards flying towards Orochimaru with tremendous speed - Ice Release: Diamond Dust.

Orochimaru was able to escape my jutsu and whispered behind me.

"Very impressive. You will be mine. You will be my next vessel, Megumi."

I was able to dodge his attack, did quick hand signs which formed a blade around my arm and did an attack at a fast speed, giving him a cut on his cheek.

Orochimaru was very surprised with everything that happened and let his guard down. I closed my eyes and collected all my chakra in them. When I opened my eyes, it turned everything into ice.

"AAAAAAAA DIEEEEEE!" I screamed as Orochimaru kept running away from my gaze. When he found the way out, I tried to run after him but I heard somebody behind me shout:

"ENOUGH!"

It was a familiar voice. I looked back and my fox anbu mask dropped from my face. It was cut into pieces. Probaby because of the pressure.

I felt my eyes turn from icy blue to dark blue when I saw Kakashi staring back at me with his two big pupils, still in shock.

I walked slowly towards him, trying to cover my nose that is now bleeding. On the 3rd step, my legs would not move at all. I kneeled on the ground and started coughing up blood in my hands.

He cannot see me like this.

My body moved foward, almost falling into the ground, when I felt somebody catch me from behind.

"Enough, Megumi... I am here now." Kakashi whispered to me. I couldn't help but smile before losing consciousness.
