Chapter 26

*2 years later (Kakashi and Megumi are 19 y/o*

*Megumi's POV*

It's finally my off after 2 months of non-stop missions outside the village. I made some coffee for breakfast and started reading a book.

My apartment still feels so empty even if I have been living here for 2 years. It is a one bedroom apartment with a small living room that connects to a small kitchen. That's it. It reminds me of when I was still living with Mitsuki, but this one's definitely smaller.

After reading some chapters from the book, I changed to my usual outfit, black baggy pants and shirt, and I put on my glasses. I have an appointment today at the hospital.

"You are overusing your powers again. You will be blind in a month if you continue doing this." The doctor said.

"Is there some other way? Any medications?" I asked with worry.

"Nothing as of now. You just need to rest. You have been working non-stop, Megumi. It's about time that you rest. I'm sure the higher ups will let you do so. You are the best kunoichi in the village." She winked at me and smiled.

Best kunoichi in the village... But I lost everyone because of that...

I gave a smile to the doctor and said, "Thank you doctor, I will try but I can't promise."

As I walked towards my favorite dango shop, I saw a familiar face. It was Kakashi. He was with a beautiful girl with dark green hair. They are laughing together.

I felt a stabbing pain in my chest as I looked at them, but I couldn't stop. It's been 2 years.

That should be me.

Kakashi caught my gaze and looked away, as if I'm nothing... How I wish I can do the same thing to him. I still love him very much and I long for him every single day...

But I guess it's better this way.

Whoever gets involved with my job becomes hurt at the end. I deserve to be alone. Probably forever.

The woman saw me looking at them and started to send kisses on Kakashi's lips. Kakashi grinned and pulled her closer for a one long kiss.

Hmm. Okay?

"Megumi senpai" I heard a voice from behind. I turned around and saw Itachi in his anbu uniform. Itachi joined the anbu a few months ago and he is the youngest member as of the moment.

"Hi Itachi! Do you want to train?" I asked with a weak smile.

"You probably shouldn't." He looked at my hands that are full of callouses and deep cuts because of missions and trainings, "Sorry, I have to go. Please take care of yourself." Itachi smiled and waved goodbye.

Itachi has always been matured for his age. Eversince he joined the anbu, he did not have that much time for sparring with me and Shisui anymore.

*6 months later*

Lord Danzo have sent me on a mission to help Sunagakure fight some shinobis who illegally infiltrated the village. I got here early, and other anbus from Konoha are also on their way for backup.

The shinobis are strong. They have almost made the village look devastated. There are 5 of them and all Sunagakure anbu members who were with me are dead. I have been fighting alone for hours and when they finally cornered me, I bit my thumb to summon Emiko.

"Megu, you don't have enough chakra. You will die!" She said with worry.

"I would very much like that." I said while taking off my fox mask. I looked at the enemies and added, It's 5 against 1. That is not fair but you left me with no choice."

I made some hand signs and used my demonic ice release. Emiko turned to a huge ice dragon and attacked the enemies. She got 2 of them and bit their heads off. I made another hand sign and made thousands of icy needles. I sent all of them flying to the 3 enemies left but they were able to dodge some of them and they only got slightly injured.

"You are strong." One of them said with a smirk.

I felt my knees become weak and coughed up some blood. I cannot stop now. Because of my low chakra, Emiko turned to her normal self - an Arctic fox, quickly went in front of me, and growled to the enemies.

"Megumi, save yourself." I heard Emiko say but shrugged it off.

I made another hand sign, it made Emiko a giant ice dragon again. I made her attack the enemies with her icy breath. If the cold wind touches their skin, they will immediately turn to ice. I helped Emiko by using my eyesight and did the same until we cornered all of them.

"AAAAAAAAAAAH" I felt a cold burning sensation in both of my eyes as they continue to tear up blood.

Just a few more.

I tried to think of Kakashi's smile... The times that we were happy just being with each other. It gave me some motivation and I was able to do it. The entire village became surrounded with ice and it started to snow because of how cold it was. It will take a while before all these melt...

I felt my eyesight become very blurry when I caught the last 3 enemies with my jutsu. They quickly turned into ice. I made a hand sign and made their bodies shatter.

It's over.

I fell to my knees with my hands on the ground. I coughed up a lot of blood. My eyesight have become very blurry and blood kept coming out.

"Megumi!" Emiko ran beside me but I couldn't stop coughing. I saw the white ground turn into a pool of blood. That's the last thing I saw before my eyesight turn black.

I probably am blind now.

"Emiko... I cannot see anything." I told her softly as I laid down on the ground.

"Megumi... You are losing blood, I will call for help!" She said and I felt her ran away.

It is so cold... My body is shivering. I felt more blood come out through my slightly parted lips.

Tears started to form when the thought of never seeing Mitsuki and Kakashi came into my mind.

I guess it's okay to cry. Nobody will know that I am crying... The tears will be mixed together with the blood flowing out of my failing eyes.

I deserve all of this... With all the innocent people that I have killed...

"Mother, Father... I'm sorry that I have failed you... I'll be dying alone..." I mumbled as I felt my body start to lose consciousness.

"Megumi..."
