The metro was once again as crowded as it could get. It wasn't unusual for a Saturday evening, still, it was not common since there hadn't been a game today.
But then again, this was Dortmund after all.I just caught the train home by a second, the doors shutting behind me as I searched for a free seat and eventually spotting one at the far end of the train.
I sat down across from a guy, he seemed to be about my age but I wasn't sure, he was veiled by the hood of his black puffer jacket and his face mask. He wore some loose jeans and a pair of Jordan's, his hands in his pockets. As far as I could tell, I'd describe him to be my type.
My eyes met his, a blush creeping up my face as I felt like he had just caught me checking him out. Luckily he couldn't see.
He shamelessly did the same, eyes wandering across my figure as if he wanted to provoke me.
"What's your name?" He then asked in English, catching me off guard.
"Tiana." I replied, leaning slightly forward in my seat to hear him better due to the loud noise of people chatting around us and the train coming to a halt ever few minutes.
"Like in the princess and the frog?" His brows shot up, and I nodded affirmatively.
"And you?"
"I'm Jude." He held his hand out, and I shook it with a small smile on my face. I was sure he couldn't tell though, because of the face mask. Maybe it was better, I didn't want him to think I was giddy about this or something.
The speakers then announced the next station, which was where I had to get out.
"It was nice to meet you, Jude." I stated getting up, his eyes following me, indecisively, before he gently grabbed my arm.
"Can you give me your number before you leave?" He questioned, his eyes flickering between mine.
"Thought you'd never ask." I smiled, retrieving a small note with my number written on it from my phone case. I always had one in there, just in case.
"Came prepared, didn't you?" He chuckled, his eyes giving away that he was smiling. It was cute.
I simply shrugged, before stepping out into the cold January air.
a month later
Sitting in the far corner of the café, I spotted Jude.
It was a Sunday afternoon, the sun was setting due to the winter season. The café he had chosen for us to meet up was small and cozy, located in the further south of the city. I hadn't heard of it before, but I liked it.
He had recognized me as well, a small smile on his lips as he waited for me to reach the table in the very corner of the small café.
"What's it with you and corners?" I said jokingly as I sat down, earning a scoff from his side.
"Hello to you too." He tried to remain a straight face, but eventually ended up smiling at me.
"Hi Jude."
"You look pretty." He complimented, eyeing me carefully as I took of my black north face jacket; revealing the dark grey fitted long sleeve. I also wore a pair of white parachute pants along with my Adidas sneakers.
"Thanks, you're not looking too bad yourself." I teased, making him respond with a chuckle.
"How's school?" He asked, leaning forward in his seat slightly.
Jude and I had been texting every day for the past month now, casually getting to know each other. He then asked me out yesterday, to which I had immediately agreed. I liked him, he was a nice and fun person to talk to. He was very respectful and attentive whenever we talked, although we also teased each other here and there. He seemed like he was genuinely interested into whatever I talked about, which I liked.
He also was hella fine, which was just a bonus to his great personality.
"It's alright, I'm kinda failing maths but whatever." I answered with a shrug of my shoulders. I was currently in my eleventh year, and I was literally good at everything except math. But to be fair, I kind of gave up trying.
"That's embarrassing. I'm really good at maths, you know." He said sarcastically but with a confidence that made my brows furrow. Jude seriously had a god complex problem sometimes.
"Yeah?" I also leaned forward now. I could see the corners of his lips turn up slightly, he was clearly amused by this.
"Yeah."
"Maybe you wanna help me out sometime, then?" I dared, but he didn't once think about backing down. It was another thing I had noticed about him; we had the same big ego, which was a bit hard sometimes because neither of us were backing down, like ever.
"Sure, just tell me when and I'll make some time free." He told me, making me roll my eyes. I knew he was once again referring to his stacked calendar as club footballer. Like I said, god complex.
"You're funny."
"No, I'm serious though. There's always time for you." He smirked playfully, before leaning back again when a waitress reached our table.
We quickly ordered, the waitress eyeing Jude nervously from time to time. I didn't mind it, if anything I could relate to her.
"And how's the game going?" I inquired when she left, his eyes finding mine again.
"Pretty good, I mean you're sitting right in front of m-" He started, making me groan in annoyance but just ended up in us laughing at his terrible joke. He was really playful today, it was cute.
"Seriously, Jude."
"It's been great recently, I actually have another game next Saturday." He stated, his eyes lighting up at the mention of football. He really loved it, it was nice to see how passionate he was about it.
"I know. My dad's a huge fan." I stirred around in my coffee before taking a sip.
"What about you?" His eyes pierced into mine, making me actually divert mine elsewhere. I was good at keeping eye contact, but he was better.
"I always accompany him to the games, so I've kind of grown up with the sport. I actually played myself once." I explained, his brows shooting up in surprise.
"Why did you quit?"
"I don't know, no reason." I lied, giving him a small smile hoping that he wouldn't notice.
There had been a reason, but I didn't talk about it to anyone. Not even my parents knew.
Jude let the topic go thankfully. "Are you coming Saturday?"
"No, dad has work." I shrugged, playing with a ring on my finger.
"I can get you a ticket, if you want to." He offered, making me raise a brow.
"You'd do that?" I smiled playfully, leaning back in my seat. "Want me to cheer you on, huh?"
"Maybe." He replied with the same energy, shrugging. "So? I can fix you two, you could bring someone."
I thought about it for a second, but I could tell by his smile that he already knew my answer.
"Sure, why not."
