Chapter 88: before it's too late

Mizuki's POV

"What?? But Kei--", I started but he cut me off.

"I'm so sorry, baby.", he said.

Tomorrow is our family reunion, he was supposed to come with me again but he had to cancel. It was now night and he called me to break the news.

"Why?", I asked, feeling myself tear up again.

"It's my grandfather, he was hospitalized. We have to go there tomorrow.", he explained.

"Oh, I see... I understand, it's okay. What happened to him, is he alright?", I asked.

It's family matters so I understand, if it was something else then I'd probably get mad again.

"We don't know yet, but he said it was something about his heart. We don't know the extent yet so we're gonna find out tomorrow.", he explained.

"I hope he gets better. Send him my... ah, it's probably not good to mention me. But I do wish him well.", I replied, sitting down on my gaming chair.

"Baby, I'm really sorry. I was really looking forward to going there and seeing your family again. I know I've been saying this a lot but... I'll make it up to you. It's just all bad timing.", he sighed.

He sounded really frustrated. I want to be frustrated too, but I can't because it's a valid reason.

"Kei, don't apologize. It's okay, family is first. So go ahead tomorrow, update me on how he's doing.", I said.

"Okay, thanks baby. But, who are you going with tomorrow?", he asked.

"Well, Haruka's coming, Goshiki is gonna be there since Satori invited him so I thought Haruka should come too.", I answered.

"Anyone else?", he asked.

"I don't know, I'll tell you when I have someone.", I answered.

"Okay, rest now. Thanks for being understanding, baby. I love you.", he said, which made me smile.

"I love you too. Rest well, Kei. Good night.", I replied.

"Okay, good night. Bye.", he said and ended the call.

I sighed and put my phone down. Of course, I'm disappointed that I won't get to spend the day with him like I wanted. I've longed for the feeling of seeing my boyfriend get along with the rest of my family. But it's fine.

I turned my PC on, maybe I can play a few games to distract myself. Out of curiosity, I opened my Discord and saw Kenma online. It's late at night and he's still playing Left 4 Dead?

I put my headphones on and called him. He immediately answered.

"Hello? I'm in-game.", he said.

"Hello in-game. This is your best friend speaking, asking you to go to sleep.", I replied.

"Mizuki?", he was surprised and he paused the game. I knew because I heard the game sounds stop.

"Hi pudding.", I greeted.

"Uhm... this is my last game.", he said as an excuse for me not to scold him.

"Why are you still up?", I asked.

"I couldn't sleep. Why are you still up?", he returned the question.

"Oh... I need a distraction.", I replied.

"Is there something wrong? Hold on, I'm exiting my game.", he said.

"No, you don't need--", I started but he cut me off.
