the cool air was calming dawn. she sat crisscrossed with her eyes closed as she breathed in the salt of the waves. she breathed in its words and its backhanded compliments because this was the only time she felt at peace, this and when she was with the girl sitting next to her.
dawn had never taken billie here, she was afraid once she did— shed never return, fore her love of billie would've corrupted this place.
dawn was afraid that once she told her lover of the things wrong with her she'd leave and everything would remind her of billie.
but now she sits with the blue-eyed girl, even after telling her.
the waves begin to whisper, they're not as loud as before is what dawn thinks as they think of what to say.
"we're proud, so very proud girl— but you cannot live forever. when your fight is over, come be with us." was what they said.
and at that dawn simply smiled.
because dawn had somewhat come to terms with her death, though she still didn't know what was beyond the line.billie looked over to her, she missed dawns smile. "why are you smiling" billie says, the wind blowing her hair.
"the waves are speaking to me," she says. any normal person would call dawn crazy, say she was out of her mind but billie nodded "what did they say?"
dawn smiles more "that they were proud of me."
billie nods with a smile, she didn't know what her girlfriend was hearing but she listened anyway because she knew dawn was special in a way that she could even hear waves speak.
"billie," dawn says so softly it's as if billies falling in love all over again.
"yes," she replies.
"when i die" dawn breathes through her nose slowly "i want to be cremated and sprinkled into this very ocean. can you do that for me? i can trust you to do that for me right?"
she looked over at the girl who'd just become pale at the thought of losing someone who's love ran so deep she could feel it coursing through her veins.
billie nodded with a hesitant "okay."
as every person that was in love, she did not want her girlfriend to die. she didn't want to have a funeral for dawn and she did not want to write a eulogy for her.
because she knew that when death do them part then that'd be it for her. she knew that she'd close her eyes in memories and never want to wake up.because billie knew that she'd search for dawn in everything and never be able to love again.
