Chapter 23: Lona's Idol

Lini tries in vain to call Will, she knows she hurt him last night but she couldn't lie to him. She doesn't like hurting someone's feelings, she's never done that. Will has always been a big brother to her and she loves him but not the same way he does. She hasn't heard from him, she doesn't know what to do, she can't leave without Agnès being watched. Lini goes into her bag and dials the number indicated, hoping that someone answers.

"Hello"

"Taker?" She said hoping he recognizes her.

"Who is this ?" Said Taker with a tired voice and a bit hungover.

"It's Lini." finally announced herself, she runs her hands through her hair hoping that he will understand her situation.

"Oh Rookie, sorry I didn't recognize you...I...I slept badly last night." He apologized.

"I... I'm calling you because I won't be able to come to the house shows..." She said, biting her fingernails, looking out the window at passers-by.

"Are you OK ?" he asked.

"Yeah I'm fine, it's just that I don't have anyone to babysit Agnes so..." she said sadly. A long silence falls between them, she rubs her hair wondering if he isn't angry.

"Agnes could stay with Mideon at my house, he knows how to take care of kids." he suggested.

"He doesn't mind, are you sure?" She said wanting to make sure it doesn't bother anyone.

"No, I'll send you my address and see you there." He said before hanging up the phone. She smiles and goes upstairs to her daughter's room. She sees Agnes getting ready, she takes another bag and puts clothes in the bag. She looked at her mother wondering why she had put clothes in another bag.

"Am I leaving mommy?" she asked her mother as she watched her put various clothes into the bag.

"You're not going to be baby-sat by Uncle Will this weekend." She said closing the bag.

"By who ?" She asked her mother wanting to know by whom she will be kept.

"You will see." Said to her daughter smiling.

Taker waits patiently sitting on the last step of the stairs, his things are already ready to go. He hears his daughter slowly descending the stairs with Paul who will surely accompany her to school. Paul asked to wait in the living room while he went to speak with his father. He's sitting next to Taker staring at the front door, arms crossed on his knees.

"Rookie's daughter is staying here while she's gone, do you think Mideon will be able to keep two daughters?" He asked Paul who looked annoyed.

"Yeah, but Taker, take care of your daughter. Your obsession with finding whoever ran over Jessie and Calvin has you destroying what you have left." He tells her pointing out the fact that he doesn't take care of his daughter like he should. Taker looks at him before getting up and going up the stairs.

Lini took the road to the address sent by Taker, Agnes doesn't know where she's going yet but what her mom told her is that she'll like it. She arrived in a field surrounded by trees and a large gate stood in front of her, the gate opened and Lini and her daughter looked at her in wonder from the mansion. The mansion is white with black columns, the porch is the same color as the columns, a few cars are parked, two garages are open you can see motorcycles of different colors.

"Wow! That's beautiful!" Said Agnes amazed looking out the window, she is very impressed by the big white house wondering who lives here?.

"Yes, it's very beautiful..." Said her mother also marveling at this house.

Lini parks her car, grabs her belongings and those of Agnès before heading with her daughter to the front door. They climbed the porch steps before knocking on the door.

The door opens after a few seconds and Paul smiles to welcome Lini and Agnès. Agnes is very happy to spend time with her idol, she stands behind her mother when a little girl comes to Paul, the girl is red-haired, with green eyes, about Agnes' age. Paul puts his hands on the shoulders of the red-haired girl who has her rabbit in her arms.

"I present to you Lona, Lona, today you will have someone to play with. This is Agnes, and Lini who she seems familiar to you." He says to Lona who approaches Lini, shocked that her idol is in front of her and hugs her with all her strength, very happy to finally see her, Lini looks at Paul who smiles looking at Lona.

"I'm a fan of yours. Dad didn't tell me you were coming." She said looking at her idol, her arms still wrapped around Lini who smiled and then looked at Paul who laughed. "No, I'm not her daddy." He said laughing when he saw that Lini thought he was Lona's daddy. "No it's me"

Everyone looks at the stairs, Taker slowly getting down. Taker is a dad? Lin thought. He looked at his daughter who is in Lini's arms, his gaze went to Agnès who smiled very happy to see him again. Taker puts on his coat and then takes the bags, not wanting to waste any more time. Lona wanted to give her daddy a hug before he left but he completely ignored her, which made Paul angry when he saw his daughter on the verge of tears.

"Let's go Rookie, don't worry, she'll be safe here."

he said before opening the door and walking towards his van. She looked at Paul, who raised his eyebrows, then looked at Lona, who was still holding her. He didn't even pay attention to his own daughter. Lini thought. She knelt down in front of Lona, took her little hands, she smiled, nodding her head towards Lini who is very nice.

"We'll see each other again." Says she has Lona then turns to her daughter to give her a huge hug, Lona lowers her head and goes into the living room. She looks at her daughter, kisses her on the forehead.

"You are wise, you obey adults, okay?" She said her daughter looking at her. She looked at her mom smiling.

"Yes mom, I love you."

"I love you too."

She said before taking her luggage and joining Taker in the pickup. She sits on the passenger side and waits for Paul, Taker looks in his thoughts but he is impatient, he honked Paul twice in 5 minutes. Lini decided to break the ice between them.

"Thank you for having my daughter taken care of by Mideon at your house."

Taker didn't answer, Lini went to talk to him but her phone rang at the same time, Taker looks at Lini trying to reach for her phone in her pocket.

" Hello ?"

The dodgy calls have started popping up again, Lini is starting to bite her fingers, stressful as that may be. Taker frowned as he looked at her, wondering what could be stressing her out so much.

"Hello? Answer please." She said biting her nails in stress. Taker patted surprised Lini on the arm, motioning her to hang up. As soon as she hung up, Taker motioned for her to give her phone to him. He pulls out his and dials the number that had just called Lini moments earlier and call. It rings but after a while it's the answering machine, Taker hangs up.

"Since when does this number call you?" he asked.

"For the past few days, it's been called, I pick up and all I hear is gasping." She said trying to calm her anxiety.

"Have you ever talked to the police and around you?" he questioned.

"Yes but the calls stopped a few days ago...until today..."

Taker nods and returns to his thoughts as Lini sees Agnes and Lona leaving the house with Mideon and Viscera to go to school, Agnes says hello to her mother before getting back in the car. Eventually, Paul closed the doors and walked to their car and got into the back seat before Taker started the car and drove off.
