The same night...

Taehyung sat on his bed, his legs crossed as he leaned against the headboard, a novel resting in his hands.

The room was dim, with only a bedside lamp casting a soft glow around him

The room was dim, with only a bedside lamp casting a soft glow around him. He wasn’t truly absorbed in the book, though—it was simply a way to distract himself from the whirlwind of thoughts swirling in his mind.

Earlier that evening, his mother, Ha-rin, had explained the reason for his aunt Jiwoo’s unexpected visit, and Taehyung had felt as if the ground beneath him had shifted.

The shock of hearing that Soo-ah was being considered as a potential bride for him was enough to leave him speechless.

He had blinked in disbelief, struggling to accept it, almost convinced it was some terrible dream.

Soo-ah was like a sister to him—someone he had grown up with, teased, and shared countless memories with. How could the Parks even consider a marriage between them?

Even if Soo-ah was willing to make it work, Taehyung knew in his heart he could never love her the way a husband should love his wife.

But he hadn’t shared any of these feelings with Ha-rin. When he heard the proposal, he’d been too stunned, unable to find the right words. Instead, he had quietly left his mother’s room, his mind in turmoil.

With a sigh, Taehyung placed the novel on the bedside table and switched off the lamp, letting darkness settle over the room. He pulled up the blanket, ready to sink into sleep, hoping it might bring him some peace.

A soft knock on his door broke the silence.

“Come in,” Taehyung called out, a note of confusion in his voice. He glanced at the clock—it was nearly 1 a.m.

Who would come at this hour?

The door opened, and his parents, Ha-rin and Ye-Jun, stepped into the room.

Taehyung sat up, a crease of worry forming on his brow as they approached the bed and sat on either side of him.

“Eomma… Appa… is everything okay?” he asked, concern lacing his voice.

“Everything’s alright, bear,” Ye-Jun replied, reaching out to pat his shoulder with a gentle smile. “We just wanted to talk to you about something important.”
