Sameer watched as Aama held his hands in hers, patting them with much love and care. Even though he had been getting those kind of gestures ever since Abbu died, he was still not used to the sudden love. But to say that he was glad was an understatement as he always looked forward to being in his mother's arms, there was always comfort he finds there.
"Morning, how are you my child?" Aama inquired. "Fine alhamdulillah. I'm off to work" Sameer informed. He was already set to go for work that morning, but seeing that it had become important to him to see his mother before he leaves, he stayed back to greet her.
"No Sameer, have I not informed you to take a day off? Did you forget that today's your birthday?" Aama questioned. "My birthday is not worth the money I'll make in a day Aama. And besides, i am not a child, I am 29 for crying out loud" Sameer replied. "Exactly Sameer, which is why your cousins and uncles are coming over today. You just have to be free and see among the females whom you like, you should get settled" Aama explained.
"That is not necessary Aama, when the right person comes, I won't hesitate" Sameer said. "But you still have to take a day off as your uncles will need an audience with you, they'll come with your father's lawyer" Aama mentioned the only reason why Sameer finally gave up going to work. He felt something big was approaching him that day and right there, he found his answer.
It was just like other days in his life when he'll wake up and feel the bad energy within him and just like that, something always goes wrong. He felt it that day too. So as he decided to stay back home and not go to work, he also prepared his mind for the worst and prayed that everything would be alright.
"Okay Aama, I'll be in my room" Sameer said before standing up from the side of his mother's bed where he sat when he came into the room. "Good, have a nice rest" Aama said before Sameer moved out of her room and headed for his room. So much for getting dressed in the sophisticated work clothes.
Halfway to his apartment, he felt a tap on his shoulders. Even without turning to look, Sameer could tell who the person was as it was not the first and wouldn't be the last time the person does that. "What did we say about the taslim Hasna?" Sameer asked turning to look at her, the surprised expression on her face though made him confused within a second.
"Are you seriously serious?" Hasna asked back. "Do I look otherwise?" Sameer glared. "Woah, maida wuƙar. No be say I wan make u dey attack me" Hasna said with hands up in surrender and a chuckle. "Well then explain yourself if you don't want to be attacked, and what's with the broken or pigeon English? kin fara kwanan barrack ne?" Sameer asked.
"I said the salaam to you and you ignored me, after that I even called your name like five times but you still didn't respond that's why I tapped you on the shoulders. And as for your second question, I didn't even realise when the words came out like that" Hasna shrugged. "But I like it" She whispered.
