Irving stood with Brian his arms, grinning ear to ear as Adrian welcomed guests. Brian giggled in his father's arms, awed by the decorations and the bustle of the party.
Landon stood beside Irving playing with Brian. Grayson, Hendrix, Kristian, and Jasper sat around a table sipping drinks and using their phones. All brothers had presents delivered to the little boy days before, some presents still in transit. Grayson, who had acted like he did not care much had spent so much Irving had berated him for spoiling the boy. Kristian had no gift giving skills and gave what he thought best, shares in his various companies. Despite the brother's aloof front when it came to giving children gifts, Brian's playroom had been filled to its capacity by gifts given by just his uncles. Gifts from other guests had to be stored in a different room.
Adrian who came from a middle-class family did not mind his boy receiving things he could never have as a child. Irving on the other hand, worried the boy would be spoiled too much.
Margot sat on the same table as her brothers, the twins in a double pram sleeping soundly. Despite the noise, the two boys slept like rocks. Margot did not mind; she was happy she could get a breather.
Vanora, Betha and Dalles sat on the same table, now having their nth glass of mimosa. The girls were starting to get tipsy and Margot face palmed at her friends' habits.
The party was ongoing when the music stopped abruptly. Irving who was trying to get Brian to eat some carrots stopped and turned to look around as he frowned. Before Irving could panic, he saw Adrian take the stage.
Adrian who was previously dressed in casual wear had changed into a suit and his hair was sleeked back. Irving's eyes widened.
Irving adjusted the mic stand and cleared his throat.
Irving who was confused looked around and saw Margot and her friend hold up their phones to record Adrian.
Brian giggled excitedly and clapped his little hands when he saw his father on stage. He babbled and called out 'dada' several times.
"Uh...I have been planning this for a long time now" Adrian started to say as his deep soothing voice came through the speakers set up across the garden.
"I have a lover. A very stubborn and spoilt one at that" Adrian and several laughs came from the guests.
"He's quirky, lazy but hardworking, elegant but clumsy. Many people claim he's quite arrogant and prideful, but I know he has a very big heart and is the kindest person deep down. Don't be deceived though, I fought tooth and nail to be where I am with him now" Adrian said with a nervous chuckle.
At this point, Irving was blushing, and he half wished the floor would open up to swallow him.
"I won't make this too long but what I want to say is I wish to spend the rest of my life with my lover, my partner and my best friend. His brothers don't really approve of me to be very honest but I wish to spend the rest of our lives proving myself to them" Adrian continued. Grayson grunted and Hendrix scoffed as he adjusted his glasses. Kristian gave a smile and Jasper remained blank faced. Landon just smirked as he looked up from his phone. Margot smiled as she looked at all her brothers.
"Irving, I know there are things you still find hard to say to me but I hope one day you trust my love for you enough to confide them in me." Adrian said as he fished out a velvet black box from his pocket.
"In front of our families and friends, Irving Knox Zeus McQuoid..." Adrian said now on his knees.
"You have been a great partner to me, and a great father to our son. I hope to spend the rest of our years together officially. Will you marry me?" Adrian asked in a loving voice.
Irving froze in place. Several thoughts running through his head. Both positive and negative. Irving stood with Brian in his hands and made his way to the stage.
Irving smiled and looked down on Adrian.
Irving hit the man on his shoulder.
"You silly man" Irving said as his eyes watered.
"Did you expect me to hand you over to someone else? Did you plan on escaping me?" Irving berated as he cried and stretched his hands to Adrian. Adrian smiled as he slipped the silver band onto Irving's finger.
"SO that's a yes?" Adrian asked the man as he stood.
"Obvs" Irving said, his voice cracking. Adrian chuckled.
"We're getting married guys!!" HE announced into the microphone as he embraced Irving and Brian.
Cheers erupted from the crowd and Irving blushed harder.
Irving's brothers remained sat as other guests stood and applauded the couple, several words of congratulations ringing out.
"The bastard's gone and done it" Grayson said as he sipped his drink.
"Mhmmm" Hendrix hummed in response.
Margot laughed, knowing that her brothers just had to accept Irving's engagement, despite their protective natures. Even if the man were 70, her brothers would still act this way.
