Troy stood in front of Margot's bedroom door. It was silent. The Ladies stood by the side slightly tilted forward bowing to him.
"The Lady asked to not be disturbed" Bree informed Troy.
Troy turned to look at her.
He looked at the door again.
"Get her ready to begin her duties as soon as she is ready" Troy told Bree before turning to leave.
Bree looked sadly at Margot's door.
Bree approached the door and then knocked. No answer.
Bree returned to her position.
30 minutes later the door opened to reveal Margot. She was dressed in a long flowing dress which had long sleeves and a turtle neck. Margot wore a sweater with the dress and nude slippers to match. Margot had managed to put her hair up in a messy bun.
Margot looked normal and her makeup was flawless but Bree could tell that she had used a lot of concealer.
Margot motioned for Bree to lead the way.
Bree led Margot to a study. Bree showed Margot all the relevant books, paperwork, database, laws and guide books. The first thing Margot chose to do was look through the social care system. She had once heard her Father moan about how corrupt the officials in that ministry were.
Margot requested one of her Ladies to fetch the account books or at least ask for access to the stored database. Ten minutes later, her Lady returned with a panicked expression. Leanna was her name. She informed Margot that the Records Team had refused to grant her access. Bree frowned. Margot had a very expressionless look. Bree noticed that since her wedding day, Margot had not seemed like herself. She rarely smiled. And when she did, they were very fake ones.
Margot stood up from her seat and asked Leanna to take her to the office.
Margot pushed the door open and several men sat in front of tens of dua; monitors surrounded by ceiling high bookshelves stood to greet her. Margot ignored them.
"I do not care who you serve, or what you think of me. If I do not have access in the next 2 minutes, for whatever form of corruption I eventually find, you and your families will be sued as accomplices to fraud, extortion, embezzlement and corruption. Your family names will always be linked to stealing from the masses and your children will hide their names in shame for what you will be known for. Do not underestimate me." Margot said in a low but chilling voice.
Margot turned to walk out immediately she was done talking giving no man room to speak or respond. She stopped as she was almost out the door.
"You have two minutes" she said before she walked out.
Leanna walked behind her in her wake. Leanna knew her Princess was not herself but she was proud of Margot for standing up to a room full of that many men. Leanna could not imagine herself doing so.
By the time Margot got back to her desk, the page which had shown a large red Restricted sign before Margot left, now displayed no warning sign and all records were appeared to be at her disposal.
Bree who was behind her smiled slyly.
"Well done Princess" She said.
Margot only hummed in response and got to work.
By the end of the day. Margot had a list of the all the noblewomen and men who had a hand in siphoning off social care money for personal use.
Lady Thern went on an all expense paid holiday to Greece last summer and had a ridiculous shopping spree. Margot now knew where the money had come from. Whilst the orphanages were struggling to make ends meet, dear Lady Thern and her social circle were sporting the latest dresses from the most recent Fashion show.
