"These croissants taste familiar" Troy commented as he picked his cup to sip some tea.
John blinked.
"She sent this didn't she?" Troy commented flatly and John stayed silent.
"I didn't know Your Majesty" John replied and Troy chuckled.
"Leave the matters of my heart to me John. I'm sure you're concerned and I appreciate it John. Only you have truly cared for me like your own brother through these years. I'm self aware. I can see I might be chasing something I might never have. I'll deal with it. You just focus on keeping the country afloat till I'm able to recover." Troy said slowly and John grit his teeth.
John nodded and excused himself.
As John slid the room door open, Margot came into view.
John frowned. He stopped himself from doing or saying anything. He moved to let the woman in and then closed the door behind him as he left the room.
Silence surrounded the two people in the room. Troy was sat in the large hospital bed whilst Margot stood timidly before him. She wore a sundress and slippers. She had her curls in cornrows and she hung a simple black bag on her shoulder.
In contrast to her radiant look, Troy was a shadow of his former self. The man eyes sunk and he had bags under his eyes. He looked thinner and worn out. A stubble had developed around his chin and his hair looked greasy. The man's lips were pale.
"H-hey" Margot said out, breaking the silence.
Troy smiled.
"How are you" ?Margot asked and Troy nodded.
"Still alive" Troy replied
Silence ensued again. Margot fidgeted with the hem of her dress.
"I-" Margot started to say and Troy shook his head.
"It's okay...Let's not drag anything out. I'm sure you were very busy with the new additions to your family. I hope they're alright now..." Troy said softly with a smile still plastered on his face. Margot's heart beat loudly, fast and hard against her chest.
"Margot" the man called softly and Margot stilled. Her heart skipped a beat. She got butterflies in her stomach and her heart clenched. She dreaded what the man would say next.
"STOP!" Margot yelled and Troy's eyes widened.
"Don't decide for me" Margot said with her fists now clenched at her sides.
"I-...I know I've not been very...expressive but that does not mean I don't want to b with you. I honestly didn't come here to break up or hear you say you want to break up..." Margot said.
Margot's palms became sweaty.
"I'm sorry" she said and tears streamed down her face. "I- I'm so so sorry" Margot repeated. She cried as she repeatedly muttered her apologies.
"I should have been more attentive. I should have been. I'm so so sorry" Margot repeated and Troy just smiled.
"Hey...come here" Troy beckoned and Margot shook her head with a step back.
Troy smiled and beckoned on Margot again. Margot looked at him before taking small steps towards him.
Troy patted on the space beside him and Margot climbed onto the bed.
"It's alright. I was pushing too hard" Troy said as he hugged her. His body emanated warmth and Margot realised just how high his fever was.
She tried to struggle out of his arms but Troy held onto her tighter.
