Sharalyn's POV

I was always told to never venture into the deep water. At least, not alone. Anyone who travels alone is subjected to being snatched away by the one they call Abyss. Little do they know, I was already abducted. I was abducted and I fell in love. But I was stupid. I fell for my kidnapper but I was in love with the sea and he could get me to the sea. He showed me the side of him that no one else would see. They all knew him as Abyss. I knew him as Maverick. But he is only a small part of my story. I have moved on with a new husband and a new baby. I am happy. I am content. Right?

I was walking through town with John, my husband, and my baby, Corynn. She is currently 6 months old and she is the happiest little thing on this planet. Ah, I love her. We went into town to meet up with my best friend, Larkin, and his wife, Charmine. 

"I can't wait to see Larkin! He is always such a positive energy!" John smiled at me and kissed my forehead.

"I know. You always light up when you see him. You've been friends for so long and he helped you when you were..." He trailed off but I know what he was going to say. He knows that Corynn is not his daughter. I was already pregnant when we met and fell in love. We did marry quickly but he was honestly perfect and he was the best father to Corynn, even if he wasn't her real dad.

"Yeah, I know. I'm just glad to be back in town, with you, with Corynn, and everyone." I told myself to never think about him again. It makes my heart thump every time I do. 

John and I make it to the seafood restaurant that Larkin and I like to frequent on our best-friend dates. We walk in and the nautical-themed place was just as fun as it was delicious. I spot Larkin and Charmine in the back, near the window where you could see the bright blue ocean that I longed for but will never go back to. As long as he is out there, I'm safer in the village.

Larkin sees me and waves like a madman.

"Shar! Over here!" I giggle at his antics and we make our way to the table. Larkin picks me up and spins me around.

"Lark! Put me down," I say, giggling like a madwoman.

"Sorry! I feel like it's been so long since I've seen you." He looks down and sees Corynn.

"Is that my beautiful baby girl?!" He picks her up from her car seat and lifts her into the air. She giggles and gurgles happily. Charmine gets up and hugs me as well.

"Nice to see you both. Corynn is as cute as ever." I smile and thank her.

"Come on, we ordered some drinks while we were waiting." I grab Corynn from Larkin as we all took a seat.

"So, what is new? I want to know it all," Larkin asks.

"Really, not much. Well, actually, John did just get a promotion! he's been wanting this for some time now and he finally got it!" We all cheer as he blushes with embarrassment. 

"Oh, stop, it's not a big deal." We continue to chat about some random things, new houses, new jobs, and some other mishmash of things. Corynn started getting fussy about an hour or so into the meal.

"Let me go feed her." I wipe my face and pick her up, taking her to the restroom. I walk in and whip out my breast, covering her with a blanket as she drinks my milk. It was only when she was completely done and burped was when I notice someone was in the restroom with me. 

"Wow, you didn't change one bit, did you?" I gasp as I lock eyes with Dalinda, Maverick's right-hand woman.

"Dalinda! What are you doing here?!" I whisper yell, trying not to wake my sleeping baby. She crosses her arms and shakes her head.
