Fiorella's POV
"Tell me again, why we are camping? We are not woodland elves!" I complained to my best friend, Salina. She giggles at my despair.
"You know for your name meaning flower, you really don't like the woods," she jokes. I give her a deadpan look and she laughs.
"I'm glad this is fun for you," I say.
"Oh, would you stop it? We're going to be in a cabin but we are just hiking there since it's easier than driving. Besides, if you really hate this, why don't you fly around for a bit?" Oh, yeah, I forgot that I could fly.
"Great idea!" I drop my bag and remove my shirt, releasing my wings. I needed to stretch them out anyway. This is perfect. I willed myself to lift off the ground and I opened my eyes to see myself high in the air.
"If you're gonna stay up there, continue north for about 3 miles then take a LEFT! Don't take a right, take a LEFT!" I hear Salina call out to me.
"Yes, boss!" I tease. I fly in the direction she told me to and I just admire the woods. Now, I don't like camping but I do love the woods. Something has always drawn me towards them. Something about the nature of the mysterious woods makes you think. Who wouldn't want to get lost in the woods? Me. I wouldn't want to get lost in the woods. I am happy with my queen-sized bed and indoor plumbing.
I fly a bit farther and I notice a fork in the road. Now, did Salina say left or right? Damn, she just told me. Hmm, I think I'll go...
Right. You will turn right.
I felt something probe my brain and I couldn't tell what it was. It felt so strange. It felt like someone was compelling. It made my head throb. I held my head and I fought the urge to follow what the voice was telling me. I quickly flew left to get away from the probing. I flew further and when I stopped, I didn't feel it again so I figured it was good. I sighed and lowered myself down to the ground when I saw a decent-sized cabin. I put my shirt back on and walked over. I opened the door and saw Salina and her lover, Kimon, making some sandwiches. He kissed her cheek and she giggled. I clear my throat to announce my presence.
"Oh, Fiorella! You're here. You remember Kimon, right?"
"Of course. I can never forget a name that you obsessively talk about over and over and over again." She glares at me while Kimon chuckles.
"It's nice to meet you, Fiorella. We're just making some sandwiches for our campout in the backyard. I was told about your aversion to camping so you have free use of the cabin and anything in it," Kimon comments.
"Oh my gosh, really?!" He nods.
"Oh, of course. Any friend of Salina's is a friend of mine. Feel free to check out any room you please." I took his advice and ran to the back of the cabin, finding a huge queen-sized bed, a dresser, a walk-in closet, an attached bathroom, and a gorgeous view of some mountains. Man, this is the life! I fell back on the bed, sighing in happiness.
"I think she likes it," I hear Kimon comment.
"I think so too. Can you pull your weight around here and help out with some food?" I lift myself off the bed and follow them into the kitchen. We spent the rest of the afternoon, laughing and joking around and making food. It was a stark difference from when me and Salina were home. We live in a very tight-knit community where everything is everyone's business. My parents, my mother specifically, is the first person to judge other people but gets upset when other judge her. She's a walking contradiction. But enough about her.

"Man, that was great! One of the best sandwiches ever!" I praise.
