Cyrus' POV
I stand in the middle of the training mat, eyes closed and waiting for the strike. Slight footsteps to the right. I moved to the side and dodged the kick that was coming. Movement below. I jumped up and kicked the person to the side. Above. I dropped low before popping back up, upper-cutting the guy in the face. I looked around at my brothers and I shook my head.
"Man, you guys suck!" The eldest, Phoenix, scoffed.
"Just because you are the reincarnation of Aries, doesn't mean a thing."
"I mean, it kinda does. I got all the fighting skills."
"And the temper." If there is one thing I hate, it's being told I have a temper. What am I, five?
"I DO NOT HAVE A TEMPER!" I yell.
"Aww, look, baby Cyrus is throwing a tantrum." My other brothers, Blaze and Horicio, taunted. I felt myself get angry and my hands felt extremely hot. I knew I needed to let out some rage fire. I conjured fireballs in my hands and threw them at the offending brothers. They quickly dodged which made me even madder. I continued hurling fireballs at them but I got stopped by someone pulling on my ear.
"Cyrus Ignacio Madden! I told you to not hurl fireballs at your brothers!" Damn it.
"I'm sorry, ma but they provoked me! Again!" I defend.
"Boys, stop provoking your brother. He just got his fire powers under control. One outburst of anger and he won't be able to control it."
"Well, we're helping him by having him not get mad at us even when we taunt him," Blaze defends his actions.
"Be that as it may, Cyrus needs to keep his mood under control. So, knock it off!" Mom warns us all.
"Yes, ma'am." She released my ear and I sighed. Mom went back on the porch and I followed, watching my idiot brothers try and hurt themselves.
"So, any new interests at school?" My mind quickly went to Esme. She is so beautiful. Her eyes are liquid pools of aquamarine, baby pink lips, full cheeks, and long luscious blonde locks. I know I shouldn't be thinking about her in that way but she would look so good on her knees for me. Or I get on my knees for her. Fuck, I need to stop thinking about it before my brothers notice.
"Not really. There is a new girl in town. Her name is Esme Rosenthal. She's a great girl. I'm taking her to the homecoming dance this week."
"Well, what's she like?"
"She's a little timid, very sweet, soft-spoken, tiny, and just amazing. She's super smart too. She wants to be an architect and publish books online. And she loves to cook! She can throw down in the kitchen!" Mom smiles and crosses her arms.
"Sounds like someone has a little crush on this girl." I felt my face flare up with warmth.
"What? No, no way. I think she's a great girl but I don't like her like that."
"Oh really? So, I can take her then? What was her name, Esme, right? Sounds like the perfect name for me to call out when she's..." I growled loudly and hurled a fireball at my stupid brother's head.
"Stay away from her!" I yell. Mom clears her throat and smirks at me.
"So, you don't have a crush on this girl?" I sighed.
"Okay, maybe I do. But isn't it weird? I've only known the girl for a week and a half. I can't like her already."
"The heart doesn't care about time. If it knows what it wants, then leave it be." I consider my mom's words carefully. She's right. I like this girl and I'm gonna make her mine.
