*This is a human story*
Amara's POV
I took my cinnamon rolls from the oven and breathed in the smell. Man, they smell absolutely amazing! I place them on the stove and let them cool. I'm visiting my parents today for Sunday brunch at their house and they love my homemade cinnamon rolls. I've been cooking since I was a child. I grew up cooking with my mom and baking with my grandma. I love making foods that warm the soul or heal your mind. Watching someone eat something you make and their eyes light up with happiness as the flavors explode in their mouths.
After the cinnamon rolls cooled, I slathered on the cream cheese frosting. Once that was done, I wrapped them up and went to my room to get dressed. Since it was a casual Sunday brunch, I didn't go too crazy with my wardrobe. I decided on a simple white dress, a light blue cardigan, and my white Converse, and I put my hair in two space buns. I grab my purse, my wallet, my keys, my phone, and my rolls before getting in my car and driving to my parent's house.
My parents live in this beautiful ranch-style house complete with a wrap-around porch, white picket fence, huge front yard and backyard, and wind chimes for as far as the eye can see. My mom always tells me that whenever you hear the wind chime, that's your grandfather saying hello. Man, I miss him so much.
I park in the driveway and see a few more cars near the house. Are they having a party and didn't tell me? Hmm, that would be weird. I walk up to the porch and ring the doorbell. I hear excited paws running to the door, followed by a few barks. I giggle, hearing my childhood dog, Jaws. Don't ask me why I named him Jaws, I was 7.
"Jaws, get back from the door! Jeez." The door opens, revealing my lovely mother. If you saw her, you would never believe that she is 49 years old. Especially standing next to me. She aged like fine wine. Her long black hair shows a few streaks of gray, her slender face has some wrinkles, her bright blue eyes still show the childlike wonder that lives in her, and her smile is warming and welcoming.
"My baby!" She reaches out and gives me a big hug. I hug her back and she kisses my cheeks.
"Hi, mom." She pulls back and lets me into the house. Jaws, my golden lab, quickly comes to me and sniffs around me.
"Hi, Jaws!" Mom takes the tray of rolls from my hands so I can give the dog some love. I scratch behind his ears and he licks all over my face. I giggle at the affection from the darling dog.
"I missed you too, buddy." I kiss his nose and walk into the kitchen with him following me. My dad was carrying a large pot of eggs to the dining room. He was focused and didn't notice me.
"Hi, Dad!" I call out to him. He turns and smiles at me. My dad was also aging like fine wine. He had that look that most girls would consider a DILF. He had salt and pepper hair, and some wrinkles, and it was clear that he still had the muscles he had when he was 20.
"Hey, love bug. Let me set this down and I'll be right back." He walks into the dining area and a few seconds later, he comes back out and gives me a huge bear hug, lifting me and all that. I giggle and embrace him.
"How's my little girl?" He asks, setting me down.
"I'm fine but I'm 19 now, Dad." He scoffs.
"I don't care. You will always and forever be our little girl." My parents wanted more children but after such a complicated pregnancy and birth where my mom almost lost her life, my dad didn't want to put my mother through that ever again and my mom agreed after some sessions in therapy. They loved me with their whole hearts and I couldn't ask for better parents.
"Can you put your cinnamon rolls on the counter and come to the dining area? We have a surprise for you." A surprise? Hmm, what could it be? I did what my mother asked and set the rolls in the kitchen before walking into the dining room. My smile grows big when I see who's there.
