Penelope's POV
I felt my knee tapping quickly as I sit in the principal's office. Whenever you get called into the principal's office, it's never good news. They even asked for my mom to join. She put her hand on my knee and I look up. She smiles at me and kisses my head.
"Pen, calm down. You're an excellent student. I'm sure this is wonderful news." My mom is ever the optimist. I wonder where I got my pessimism from. The door opens and the principal walks out. He smiles at us both.
"Penelope, Mrs. Carina. Please, come on in." We got up and walked into his office. He closed the door and gestured for us to have a seat. I sit down and my knee won't stop bouncing. We all got comfortable before the principal.
"You're probably wondering why you are here." Yes, that would be correct! Now tell me before I explode!
"So, as you know, we had a nationwide exam that spread across the entire nation. Out of our school, Penelope was one of the only ones who got a perfect score." My mouth dropped. I knew I had done okay but a perfect score?!
"Wow! That's amazing! But, what doesn't this mean?"
"Well, for those who get a perfect score, they get a full-ride scholarship to any university of their choosing. So, I called you in here to see if you had a university in mind?"
"San Diego State University," I answer without hesitation. I have always loved the campus. It was so open and fresh and there was always something to do. And they had the perfect program for what I wanted to do.
"Well, that's wonderful. I'll let the committee know about your decision."
"Um, you had said that I was one of the ones that passed with a perfect score. Who's the other one?" I ask. Just as I ask, the door lies open and I turn; my face going pale. Lucio Lopez. The school's bad boy. He skips class all the time, smokes, drinks, fucks anything with a taco between their legs, but he is so freaking attractive. Luckily, we never had any contact with each other until last week. He and his buddies were smoking by the courtyard and the smoke was hitting me right in the face. I tried to ignore it but it got worse so I took my water bottle and poured out all of their cigarettes before taking them all and smashing them with my foot.
'Smoke your shit somewhere else and I don't have to witness three idiots ruining their lungs as well as everyone else.' I stomped away and took my things, escaping to the library. Ever since then, I have been avoiding him. I had no idea what they were going to do with but nothing too bad since two of his friends laughed. Lucio was the one who was pissed.
"Ah, Mr. Lopez. Nice to finally meet with you." Lucio rolled his eyes and stood by the door.
"All right, what do you want, William? I got a deal babe waiting in my car for my dick." I gasped and covered my ears. What vulgur language! The principal sighed.
"Well, Mr. Lopez, it seems you were the other student who got a perfect score on the nationwide exam. So, you get to choose a university of your choice."
"San Diego State University. Now can I go?" He said. No, no! He can't go there! My college life will be over!
"Yes, yes, you can go." Lucio makes eye contact with me and smirks.
"See you later, half point." He slammed the door and I jumped at the sound. Half point? What the hell does that even mean?
The principal sighed heavily, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry about that. I don't know if he will ever change. But that's all I need from you right now. Enjoy the rest of your day." We thanked the principal and left his office.
