Part 48 - The Realization

"Kaun hai yeh ladki?", His dad asked standing at the porch of the house. They both looked in the direction of the voice and stood up from their seats.

"Tum kisi ko bhi ghar mein aane deti ho!! Kitni baar samjhana padega tumhe? Aise hi kisi ko bhi ander kyun bula leti ho tum? Aur tum? Tum abhi tak yahin ho?.. Hai kaun yeh ladki?", He asked angrily walking ahead.

"Yeh.. aap pehle puri baat sun lena.. yeh Mini hai. Woh.. Ne.. Neil ki dost hai. Neil..

"Neil!! Yeh naam hum iss ghar mein kab se lene lag gaye? Iss ladki se kaho yahan se jaaye."

"Aap please baat toh sun lo pehle.. Neil ko.."

"Bas!! Aur kuch mat bolna."

"Kyun naa bolu? Aur kab tak chup rahun main? Mera beta hai woh!! Humara beta hai jo akela hai.. zaroorat hai usey humari. Kab samjhenge aap? Kaisi kismat hai yeh, beti ko kho diya, ek beta hai jo ho kar bhi door hai, itne saalo se..", his mom burst out into tears on the floor. Mini immediately held her.

Mini: Aunty..

Neil's mom: Beta, mujhe uske paas le chalo.

Mini: Aunty aap shaant ho jaiye. Pehle aap yahan, upar baitho. Main le jaungi aapko.

Neil's dad: Koi kahin nahin ja raha hai iss ghar se.. bas tum jao. Aur phir kabhi mat aana. (To his wife) Aur tumne dawai toh li nahin hogi..

Mini: Main chali jaungi uncle. Bas itna batane aayi hoon ki Neil theek nahin hai. Aur aap Neil ki tabiyat toh chhodiye.. aapko toh apni wife ki halat bhi nazar nahin aati.. nahin, nazar sab aata hai bas dekh kar bhi andekha kar dete hain aap.

Neil's dad: Kaisi badtameez ladki hai yeh! Aise dost hain tumhare ladle ke..

Mini: Aise dost hain.. jinhe uski parwah hai.

Neil's dad: Kya.. kya takleef huyi hai usey? Paise kam pad gaye ya rehne ka thikhkana nahin hai?

Mini: Aapke paiso ki zaroorat na usey pehle thi na aaj hai. Bas uss pita ki zaroorat hai jo pyaar se sirf itna puch le ki woh kaisa hai. Ek maa ki zaroorat hai jo puch le ki khana khaya hai ya nahi. Aap dono ka pyaar chahiye usey, aur kuch nahin... Aur.. kal accident ke baad se..

Neil's mom: Accident? Neil theek hai naa?

Mini: Aunty woh..

Neil's dad: Ac.. accident?

Mini: Kya hua uncle? Aapko kaise fikr ho rahi hai? Tension mat lijiye, physically, he's fine. Haan bas pichle kuch saalo se uske mann par jo chot hai, uska ilaaj toh nahi hai. Dil dukha hai par usse kya fark padta hai? Insaan chal raha hai. Kaam par jata hai, ghar wapas aata hai toh theek hai. Fit and fine!! Par woh 'fit and fine' sirf dikhta hai. Hota nahin hai. Kyunki bachpan se hi uske dimaag mein jo pressure daal diya jata hai naa, woh uss pressure ko nahi jhel pata. Bachpan mein padhai ka pressure, bade hone par job aur business ka pressure, apni pasand apne bacho par daalne ka pressure.. Aur eventually woh takleef itni badh jati hai ki ek din burst ho jati hai. Dimaag chalna band ho jata hai. Senses kaam nahin karte. Par Neil ke liye yeh sab thoda aasan hai. Woh khud ek doctor hai. Sambhal lega khud ko. Main bekaar mein hi yahan aayi. Socha tha ki shayad usse is birthday par phir se wohi khushi wapas mil jayegi, apni family ka sath mil jayega, par shayad uski kismat mein nahin hai.

Neil's dad (with tears in his eyes) Kuch nahin jaanti tum. Neil ka naam jab iss ghar mein uthta hai toh kya beet ti hai hum dono par, kuch nahin jaanti tum. Beti khoyi hai humne. Chhoti.. chhoti si thi woh..

Mini: Uncle, aapki iss takleef se bada aur kuch nahin hai. It's an irreparable loss. I too lost my parents, I can feel your pain.. Par uss baat ki saza Neil ko kyun mil rahi hai? Woh bas ek accident tha!! Ek beti ko kho diya aur bete ko khud se dur kar diya? Aapne apni beti ko khoya hai toh Neil ne apni behan ko bhi khoya hai. Woh bhi pal pal roya hai. Takleef usey bhi huyi hai. Please uncle, agar koi uska pain share kar sakta hai toh woh aap dono hain.

Mini could see tears forming up in his eyes. His head tilted down to hide that weak side of his own. She didn't say anything further, just started walking towards the door. Neil's mom stopped her seeing her going out of the house.

Neil's mom: Beta, tum.. tum kahan ja rahi ho? Tumne kaha tha mujhe le kar chalogi Neil ke paas.

Mini looked at her sympathetically and then at his dad who had broken down into tears by then. His mother turned around to see her husband at the weakest point. She held him by his arm. He somehow controlled himself.

Dad: Maine Neil ko hamesha se criticise kia hai. Par iska matlab yeh nahi hai ki maine apne bete se pyaar nahi kiya. Main bas itna chahta tha ki woh business mein mera sath de. Par yeh nahi samajh paya kabhi ki woh kya chahta tha. Mini beta, yakeen maano mera, aaj jab usko iss kaabil dekhta hoon toh bahot khushi hoti hai. Usne finally woh achieve kiya jo woh hamesha se chahta tha. Main bahot khush tha jab usey merit basis par medical college mein admission mila. Mann hi mann mein realise bhi hota hai ki kaise sirf apni ego ki wajah se maine Neil ko khud se dur kar diya par ab himmat nahin hai uske saamne jaane ki. Usse nazrein kaise milaunga main?

Mini: Uncle, aap apne bete ko abhi jaante hi nahi hain. Ek baar mil kar dekhiye, nazrein milana toh alag baat hai, woh aapko gale se laga lega.. main chalti hoon, iss umeed ke sath ki aap dono aaj aayenge. Agar aayenge toh Neil ka yeh special day aur bhi special ho jayega.

With her last words, she left the house, leaving the two of them in a dilemma.

Back to the present, both of them were in tears. Neil hugged her tightly and let his tears flow down his face. Mini was surprised at his sudden action but finding solace and security in his arms, she too closed her eyes and the tears continued to seep down her cheeks.

They part but continued to look at each other with a soft smile on their lips. Their eyes were clearly radiating their feelings for each other yet the smiling lips didn't part to confess. With both his hands, he cupped her cheeks and gently pecked her forehead, thanking her for everything in his own way. She closed her eyes feeling the moment. He heart rejoiced to feel the most beautiful emotion called love.

After sometime, their sleep was long gone. Mini was in the kitchen, making coffee for both them while Neil rested in the hall itself. His phone rang. The name that flashed on his phone's screen prompted him to decline it. Mini came back with two cups in her hands. She offered one to Neil and sat beside him. They sipped on their coffee in silence, enjoying each other's company.

They comfortably kept their legs on the table in front. Mini slowly rested her head on his shoulder. He smiled at her and put his arm around her, this time without any disturbance. Feeling contented from within, they slept in each other's embrace.
