Chapter 14: Slave-ass

Salvus' P.O.V., The Next Day:

I was working my shift at Black Systems, working in a processing plant.

I was helping manufacturer IoT devices, after all that was the job listing.

However today would be different, my manager walked up to me and looked at me cautiously.

"Salvus." He began, sternly.

"Hm? Yes?" I looked up from my work.

"The higher ups know you have a friend that is not employed at a private business known as Aurora Defense. Am I correct?" He stated.

The manager was a little intimidating, actually pissing me off enough for me to want to punch him.

"I think he mentioned it once or something but I can't say for sure." I tried to remember from the top of my head.

"Either way the higher ups have some business with Aurora and we do not want to have anyone related to them here. So you are getting laid off." He explained.

"Wait! Hold on? Over me having a friend who supposedly works at some defense team? That's ridiculous!"

"Not my choice Salvus, I'm sorry." He left and walked away.

I threw all the shit I was working on the floor and left outraged. I didn't even get a proper explanation why Aurora something was a big issue.

I got into my car and shook the wheel. "Ahhhhh what the fuck is wrong with those fucks!?"

I started the car ( 2011 Honda Fit ) and drove off.

I didn't know where I was even going bit I decided to stop at a drive thru at some fast food. I thought that maybe food could help me feel better.

It did somewhat, but I was still pretty upset. In a way I was pretty mad at Emerson too for helping me lose my job. I found a newspaper box and grabbed one to read to relieve me of my stress.

In it I found a job listing for Aurora Defense low and behold.

Ironic.

Looking at the ad closer, it read that it was offering pretty high pay however you have to be above a range of 5.

I'm a 5.7 that should be a no brainer, hmph I'll show them fucks at Black Systems. They were wrong for firing me.

So I called an scheduled and appointment for an interview. They said I could interview in ten minutes.

Ten. Minutes. That's unheard of.

Surprised I slammed on the gas and immediate made my way there. I went inside, spoke to the secretary there and visited the office.

Daniel Aurora, what an interesting name.

"Salvus?" A man spoke in his chair behind a desk.

"Yes sir?"

"I've noticed you placed an applied to the team. I don't want to get bothered with all the standard interview things. I want to get on point. Why are you here?" He leans in closer.

"Because I've got fired from Black Systems and I saw an ad in the paper for a job listing here and I thought I could try it out." I explained honestly.

"Hm yes, what power can you bring to the table?" He asked, rather interested.

"My ability is Gemini, range 5.7. I basically can control air in various ways, even make air clones of myself." I said.

"Air, yes air....." Daniel thought. "Not a bad addition, Energy and Air...."

"Wait what do you mean energy-"

"Energy Manipulation is the ability of the team lead, so unfortunately that position has been taken. However there are plenty of other-"

"Wait, hold on. Emerson actually works here?!" I asked, rather surprised.

"Yes, you know him?" Daniel analyzed.

"Yes actually, he's my friend. Oh wow that's fucking cool!"

"If you take this job, you will have to encounter the dark side of crime. The worst side. Drug Trafficking, Human Trafficking, Mass Rape and Murder crimes and more hideous shit that's not listed. Are you mentally prepared to take all actions necessary to put a hault on such illegal activities." He asked, curious of my response.

I thought about it quickly and then I responded. "Yes sir, I'm prepapred."

"Sign here." He slid a contract towards me, I glanced over it quickly and signed it.

"Welcome to the team." He proud put his hands together.

"Emerson's call sign is Alpha since he is team lead, however I will grant you call sign Gamma. You don't seem like a sidekick type so you're definitely getting the Beta call sign." He addressed.

"Well good because I don't want to be a beta male haha." I joke.

"I'm going to keep an eye on you until I can further trust you. Until them I'll consult with Alpha and we can discuss a case to tackle. Understood Gamma?"

"Understood."
