Chapter 24: Dinner Is Served

- The Next Day, Evening. Southside Beach -

Daniel had made reservations for us at a nice restaurant in a beach town just south of Metropolis. I had arrived early and basically was stuck waiting for everyone else.

The day before, I realized that I still needed a car. ( I had gone everywhere with just my power but that stated to get well embarrassing. ) so with some cash that I had saved..........

Well let's just say I bought a used muscle car. Not a smart choice but a fun one. So I at least did have a car to show up to dinner at least.

Eventually the other four arrived as well and we all greeted each other and sat at our reserved table.

"This ought to be interesting." Eques said as he sat down.

I notice as we all sit down, Astral and Salvus were holding their hands but were hiding them. The only reason I noticed is because I'm a lonely fuck who for some reason notices small details.

Slave-ass what are you up to now?

"So, uh team. I guess this is our first um meeting as a complete team?" I awkwardly said but I decided to begin since I was after all, the leader unfortunately.

"We are the face of Aurora Defense. That's actually really cool." Eques added.

"It's also interesting to know that there was people before us who also used our call names as well." Salvus added.

"I think I'll talk after we order." Glancia picked up a menu.

"Good idea." I did as well.

After about 10 minutes and a waitress taking our orders, we had gotten that out of the way and could begin on tackling our differences.

OK Daniel said we should know each other, except the only problem is that I'm NOT a social person.

"You know before I started Aurora Denfense, I actually was learning to be a wood worker. I wanted to create art out of plain old trees but recently that passion to do it had drifted away and began looking for other means of providing for myself." Eques began.

"Really? I used to be in school to be a mechanic but my school since shut down and I had to start at Aurora instead. However I guess it's for the best since I started to not like mechanics work either. To well....dirty." I added.

"Yeah I agree, sometimes a simple job like that can be a little too much for some." Eques said.

"I used to go to the same school as Em. Though I was learning A/C repair instead. I too stopped for the same reasons." Salvus threw in his former gig.

"I actually tried to start my own business, I wanted to open an ice cream shop." Glanica opened up. "I thought I would have been really good at it but all that legal mumbo jumbo kind of freaked me out and so I didn't do it. So now I just have a storage unti full of stuff that would have been used for my business."

"Legal is not that hard. I'm actually considering it as a career." I commented. "It's hard at first but once you understand, you understand."

"I tried to go to college to be an astronomy professor, I went for one semester but that was it. I felt discouraged after that and that's when I joined the team instead." Astral explained her side briefly.

"We're all just a bunch of failures!" Salvus laughed.

"That hits a little too hard Salvus." Eques noted.

"Maybe we should focus on what you AND Astral are doing." I pointed out, grinning like a smug person.

"W-what I-I OK fine." Salvus sighed. "Astral and I are dating."

ITS BEEN A COUPLE DAYS SINCE YOU MET HER YOU-

"What?" I was slightly surprised even though I shouldn't have been.

"OK let us explain." Astral tried to make the situation less dramatic. "We actually touched each other and our marks on our bodies had touched each other and they glew. They turned rainbow colored and then the marks shrunk and turned into a small red mole."

"So....you two are soulmates?" Glancia summed it all up.

"That is correct." Astral smiled.

H-how?

I started to feel it. That emotional pain that somehow actually hurts and runs through your veins. I wanted to cry but at the same time I wanted to hurt someone.

I made sure I bottled it up, just so I didn't make a scene in the restaurant. Besides this is a happy moment for them, so I shouldn't ruin it.

"Something wrong Em?" Eques looked at me, noticing I was spacing out.

"Huh, yeah I'm fine haha. Congrats you two." I smiled for Salvus and Astral. "It's very uncommon for teenagers to find their one true love so its awesome you two already did."

I felt glad nobody except Salvus knew I was mark-less. I didn't want people to bring that up, also Salvus forgets small things like this sometimes so I don't have to worry about him.

I want to hurt them. So badly, I don't know why. What the hell is the matter with you?! Are you just a crazy piece of shit?

The waitress came back with our dinner and we enjoyed it. We talked some more a little but not much. After that we said our goodbyes and left for home.

The Next Day would be a true test of our talents. We'd have to investigate Black Systems. There has been a high rate of reports around the headquarters so there is plenty of reason for the concern.

I just pray it goes OK.

I also hope.....
