Chapter 15: Oddly and Unusual

The Next Day, Aurora Defense meeting room:

Today was my first day at Aurora, Daniel stood at one end of the table with a firm stance.

"Still waiting on Alpha..." Daniel sighed.

Then Emerson emerged into the room, looking worn and tired....as usual.

He said hi to Daniel but before he sat down and noticed me.

"What's he doing here?" Emerson looked at me very suspicious.

"Emerson, meet Salvus AKA Gamma to the team." Daniel introduce him.

"I know him very well, he's my friend." Emerson sat down. "Why are you here?"

"Rude." I rolled my eyes. "I'm here because they were hiring and I took the opportunity!"

"Wait I thought you-"

"Enough, you two need to work as a team and corporate. There's an alarming alert. Something odd coming from a location near Black Systems' offices. A report of low rangers attacking others with strength that is impossible with their low range." Daniel began.

"Wait how low?" I asked.

"With ranges varying between 1 and 3. Ranges so low that you shouldn't be able to produce power that a 6 ranger could." Daniel added. "I'm suspecting it's something external here."

"Shit, with that kind of result, whatever that's causing this could make a extremely high ranger like me to triple their power to ungodly proportions." Emerson sighed.

"This task is urgent and will be investigated today, this will not be an easy task. I also must add that you have to provide your own uniforms, something unique to yourself so to speak."

"Already got one." Emerson pulled out of a backpack he was lugging around.

He placed a dark blue hoodie on the table with a black face scarf, black fingerless gloves and black pants. "Simple yet effective." He grinned. "Plus it's my favorite outfit."

"Wait we are going into combat TODAY?" I asked alarmed.

"You heard that correctly Salvus. Should be fine for a 5.7 like you." Daniel confirmed.

One Hour Later, Violet Park:

Daniel dropped us off with his ridiculously fast van in a park near Black Systems. The park was known for being a cozy park with trees that produced purple flowers.

"Well Salvus, we know what we have to do." Emerson looked to me. "For now we'll have to refer to ourselves by our callnames. Understood Gamma?"

"Jeez you're making yourself sound like a commander Alpha." I joked while wearing a uniform I happened to fashion.

"Hey its not my fault I'm Alpha, I was simply first to apply. Had you applied first you probably would have been Alpha." Emerson shook his head.

"Yeah, like a 5.7 Alpha and 9.3 Gamma, Delta or Omega makes sense." I shrugged.

"Whatever. We got to do with what we got. Alright so how do we find this....thing?" Emerson pondered.

Both of us saw a flicker of light coming from the corner of the street. Hiding behind some apartments. We both walk closer to the strange flickering.

"Its-"

"Orange colored." Emerson finished for me. "That's an ability."

Emerson's brown eyes glowed blue and my amber brown eyes glowed gray, signifying our abilities' colors.

"Powers up?" Emerson checked.

A spiral of air swirled through my hands. "Definitely."

We nodded and we crept in closer.

We wish our eyes didn't work that day.

We saw a drug addict, rapping some woman. Although she was dead silent, he had a knife near her neck. We both understand that meant that he would have killed her if she made a sound.

I lifted my hand and drawed wind towards the knife, blowing out of his hand immediately.

"What the-?" The drug addict got up and noticed us both. "YOU-"

He hurled an orange glowing spear at us and we dodges it.

I surround him a hurricane of wind, hoping to trap him temporarily. "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU KIDS!"

"RUN!" I yell to the woman and she understood and escaped. We didn't need a thank you because this was a dire situation.

"Gamma! I'm reading his energy levels, his levels say he is a 2.0 ranger but that spear he threw was an equivalent to a power spear thrown by a 6.0!" Emerson shouted to me, trying to speak over the loud hurricane.

"SIX?! WHAT SHIT IS HE USING!?" I panicked, mostly out of confusion not out of fear.

The addict summoned and threw another spear, this time cutting through the wind and almost hitting me. Emerson went in front of me and blocked the spear with his arm glowing with vivid blue energy.

"If he is a six, God knows what many others may be." I thought.

"We have to figure out what it is and destroy them, an addict like him shouldn't have access to this power." Emerson barges into the hurricane and punches the guy with an energy fist.

The guy is forced out of the hurricane, he slowly gets up and summons several spears, floating above him.

"This one should be easy to take out." Emersin swirled glowing blue energy around him. "But....."

"Alpha you don't think?"

"Gamma, he might have some allies."

And just as I said that, two more men with their abilities on come up behind the addict.

"Well Alpha, you guessed correctly." I say annoyed.

"Annoying." Emerson summons energy blades on his arms, I had miniature tornados brewing in my arms.

We were prepared, to fight.
