ANNA
I quietly folded my clothes and packed the overnight bag I brought with him me. Michael walked into his old bedroom a few minutes later and sat in the chair at the corner just watching me fold and unfold the clothes again, pack and re pack the bag again. It's what I do best when I'm frustrated or angry. I will clean, over and over again till I'm at peace with myself.
Thirty minutes later when I was satisfied with myself I quietly walked out or tried to. after telling him I was going down to the kitchen and he said, "Mrs Violet already cleaned, my love."
That earned him a glare and he just gave me a small smile shaking his head at me. Before I could go any further out the door, he pulled me flush against him and kissed me. It was good. So deep and hard it left me breathless and I forgot for a second there I was angry. Then he told me he was going to talk to his father and would come find me later.****
"Ah... there you are! Dinner is ready for you missy." Zara called out walking towards me the second the foot touched the landing.
"I've been looking for you everywhere. You two are inseparable the moment he shows up." She links our arms together and starts walking us both to the kitchen. I press my lips together remaining silent. She talked about what she did at her women's charity event and the little things she got for the baby and all I did was hum my answers.
"Okay! What's the matter." She turned to me with her hands on her hips once we got to the kitchen.
"Nothing." I shrugged, pulling out the bar stool at the counter.
"Anna..."
"Hmm?" I looked up.
"Talk to me."
I shake my head in disagreement and she just sighs.
"Did Michael do something?" She narrowed her eyes and her tone suddenly changed " I will deal with—"
"No. We're fine."
Zara watched me for a spilt second and then said, "okay. Hungry?"
"Yes." I managed a small smile.
"Good." She said before turning away to the cooking stove to dish out what looks like pasta from where I'm seating behind the counter.
We sat in silence as she hummed a song happily around the place preparing my plate. My stomach suddenly felt sore and throat felt tight."Why are you still friends with her." I said and she halts her steps to the kitchen drawers.
Zara paused. A sigh. Deep breaths. She gently set down the plate of food and turned to face me. A knowing look in her eyes, she knows it's my mother I'm talking of and something tells me she knows more than she lets on.
"Anna, what's wrong?"
"Why are you still friends with my mother?"
"Best friends don't just come around and go. It takes time to find someone who would do anything for you, no matter the cost. It's a lifetime-forever kinda thing . And your mother...I love her, more than my soul even though I don't always agree with some things she does."
