Diary of a Wimpy Girl

Dear Diary, I am currently getting ready for the mixer!!!! AHH!!! Rose is doing my hair, I did my makeup and it actually turned out better than I expected and then I just have to get dressed and I will be ready to go!! My plan is to meet Henry at the school at 6:00. I can't believe this is happening! I am so nervous but even more excited!!! I mean when I look this hot.... what could possibly go wrong!! Rose is almost done with my hair and then I am going to take some photos and then I'm off!! Ahh!!!!! 

10:00 pm

Dear Diary, Okay so that mixer was again.... not what I expected. I hope you are comfortable because I have a story to tell. So I get to the mixer as I start waiting for Henry- hoping that he will show up soon because I looked kind of silly just standing there by myself. And I look around and get this? Nobody else is dressed as fancy as I am! Everyone else is wearing more casual clothes! Nice shirts, nice pants, casual shirt with a casual skirt, casual dresses like solid dresses an t shirt dresses, leggings, sweaters, heck a couple people are just wearing a standard t shirt and jeans! Or a t shirt and leggings! Why am I dressed like Cinderella and everyone else is dressed casually?? 

And then I had someone come up to me who was wearing a sweater and leggings say, "Did you think it was going to be fancy?" Why would Layla tell me that I was supposed to dress fancy and everyone else is dressing casually??? Then Henry comes up who is only wearing jeans and a t shirt and he says, "WOAH! You are a little overdressed." And then I tell him that I got him the flower thingy and he says, "Thanks? But... you didn't have to..." I felt so stupid! I thought he was going to be wearing a suit. But then I remembered that Layla told me to courtesy so I did and he looked at me like I looked stupid! And then I realized that I did look stupid.... but then we walked into the mixer and basically there was music playing in the gym, people dancing but they weren't like slow dancing like high school dances... they were like fast dancing? Cool dancing? Individually dancing? Whatever it's called when people just dance.... so that was basically all that was going on in the gym and then in the cafeteria they had snacks and a couple board games... BOARD GAMES?? I didn't think they played those in middle school anymore. Anyways, on the dance floor I looked around and everyone was either dancing in a group of friends and doing cheesy moves like the whip, hitting the quan, silly dances like that so then I looked around to see if there were any couples/pairings dancing and I only saw a few but they were like jumping and holding hands and dancing so I asked Henry if he wants to dance and he said, "Isn't that what we came here for?" But instead of dancing WITH me he kind of just danced alone but next to me and I kind of just stood there and he said, "Aren't you gonna dance" and I learned from the pool party a couple weeks ago that I suck at dancing so I kind of just improvised and then Henry joined a breakdancing circle????? And I was like yeah, I am not going to breakdance. So I kinda just stood there once again but then Layla came up to me and said hi and I figured this would be the right time to ask her why she told me to dress so fancy??? So I asked her and she said, "Oh... nobody is dressed fancy this year? I guess that was only a thing last year.... sorry!" I look at what she is wearing and it is a casual shirt and black skirt so I say to her, "But... you're not really dressed fancy!" She says, "Oh yeah- I was going to but then uh... my dog peed on my dress so I had to improvise...." Hmm.... she says her dog peed on her dress but could she have been trying to manipulate me?? Maybe she still has feelings for Henry... I don't know but it wasn't going well when he was breakdancing so I pulled him away from the circle and I asked him... "Hey Henry! I don't mean to be rude but you have been breakdancing for like the past 30 minutes and we only have an hour left so... do you maybe want to do something else?" He said, "Yeah of course! Sorry..." So then we went to the cafeteria for some snacks and he says to me, "You know... you might be a little overdressed but... I have to say... you look really pretty in that dress..." I say, "Really? Well thank you.... that makes me feel a little better since you know... I have been getting stares all night. But the thing that doesn't make sense is that Layla told me to dress like this, do you think maybe Layla still likes you?" He says, "I don't know but she's manipulative!" I say, "She is??" He says, "Uh yeah... when me and her were dating she started hanging out with another boy and then that is how we broke up..." Then I say, "So you two actually dated? May I ask what you did?" He says, "Well... we were in sixth grade so we really couldn't do much... we would go to our local ice cream shop on Fridays but that wasn't even just the two of us it was with all our friends, we would go to the movies.... but that was also with all of our friends, we would go to pizza parlors... but that was also with all of our friends... so yeah.... we actually never had a time where it was just me and her... only hang outs with a bunch more people, texting and facetiming... because again what else could we do? We were in sixth grade..." I said, "Fair enough.... but you didn't really talk about when we kissed... did you like it??" He says, "Yeah... it was cool.... did you?" I said, "Yeah... and it was my first kiss... was it yours" He said, "No.... I have kissed lots of people." I asked him if Layla is one of them and he said yes. But then he said, "But I like you, Gabby.... well the mixer is over in 20 minutes... want to dance?" I said to him, "I'm not really into breakdancing... if you couldn't tell...." Then he said, "Actually... I was thinking a little something more like....." Then he grabs my hand and spins me around we slow dance!! Yep!!! My first slow dance!! It was magical honestly!! It was maybe a LITTLE awkward.... but mostly magical!!! We didn't kiss.... I kind of thought maybe we were gonna but it's understandable.... it is a school dance..... 

So the night started off a little bad with me being overdressed, Henry breakdancing and still wondering if Layla was manipulating me.... but it was also amazing because Henry said he likes me and we slow danced!!!! So another way to put it... it wasn't a total bust!
