- THE LUXURIOUS HIGH-RISE hero office stands tall, about 85 floors tall, in the middle of fukuoka, one of the most technologically advanced cities in japan. it's known for being the first skyscraper in fukuoka to be powered with completely clean energy, which goes hand-in-hand with my brother's energy based quirk.
i'd only seen the inside of it online, high ceilings and walls of windows giving passersby's a view of what goes on inside. inside the main lobby are food places, a starbucks- which were found in most hero offices- and tall escalators that that took you to a wide glass bridge, with offices on either side and elevators in the middle to take you to the upper floors.
the lower levels were mostly for assistants, interns, any employee that wasn't a hero, the middle levels for sidekicks, and the highest levels for helios and his personal staff.
after scanning my security badge and finding my way into one of the glass elevators, i finally found myself soaring up through the floors, all the way to the penthouse, where my brother said he would be waiting.
immediately upon entering, i was not impressed.
"- with all due respect, i don't really care about that." my brother's voice reaches my ears.
i scrunch my nose as the foul smell of cigarettes flows through the office, accompanied by the vigorous spraying of perfume.
rounding the corner, i'm met with my brother's desk- situated in front of a tall window, and the only piece of furniture in the large space, it's hard to miss- as my eyes fall on his slouched form.
he sits in his hero costume, cheek resting against his palm with an office phone pressed to his ear. sighing dramatically, he shakes his head and shoots an exhausted glance to a woman angrily pushing a stack of files closer to him.
sam takes the phone from his ear, pressing the speaker to his shoulder. "amelia, those sidekicks can wait. the yakuza aren't going anywhere in the next five minutes."
amelia scoffs, hands to her hips. she wears business clothes, probably his secretary.
my eyebrows furrow as i walk closer, the yakuza?
"helios, i swear to god, if these aren't filled out by after the-" she points at him, turning to the side, before jumping back and clenching her hand into a fist. "oh, my apologies, you just be selene!"
i smile at her, waving awkwardly. "hey."
"god, you two are the same. come, sit down. he'll be off the phone soon, and then he'll fill out these files." amelia emphasizes her last words, shooting a pointed glare at sam, who waves at her dismissively in response.
