- "ALRIGHT! OUTTA THE way!" shindo said, "their defenses are too strong right now. i'll fix that."
cracks broke into the hard dirt beneath our feet as he kneeled, smirking. the broken dirt begins to rapidly vibrate, shards shooting up and sending us into the air.
"not good- everybody run!" iida shouts.
mina winces, "what the heck is this?!"
swept off my feet, dust whips around our class as i cough and clasp my hand over my lips. scarlet energy dances around my fingers, unaffected by the wind as it swirls into my palms. holding my breath, i push my hand down and send a blast into the ground, the vibrations stilling as gravity pulls me down.
[ "wh- ah!" mera yells through the speakers, "that surprised me so much that i'm awake! jesus, kids, the hell?!" ]
the shards of rock fall, forming large craters and platforms, rocky terrain surrounding me.
"syd!" izuku exclaims, the hurried sound of izuku's shoes scraping against the dirt meeting my ears. "syd, syd, are you alright?"
coughs force me to hunch over as i nod and give him a thumbs up.
he swats at the remnants of dust gliding through the wind, before reaching forward as i stand up straight. "are you sure you're okay?"
"i'm fine-!"
izuku, eyebrows furrowed in concern, reaches up and runs a hand through my hair. after a few very long seconds, he blinks very aggressively and quickly takes his hand back, glancing down at his palm and smiling apologetically. "you're not bleeding, that's good!"
my body stills, jaw clenched as i nod in response. i couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness as he took his hand back, my eyes flickering down to his hand as if willing him to reach out to me once again.
he glanced back, muttering to himself with a soft smile on his face as he analyzes the test.
"- together." izuku said, turning to me. "syd?"
i snap back into focus, raising my eyebrows in acknowledgment of him. "huh?"
"i said that our class got split up, but at least we're together." he repeated slowly, head tilting. "are you sure you're okay-?"
