izuku stands close to me, as always, our shoulders brushing against each other as we finally reach the scoreboard for the results of our licensing exam.
i gripped the handle of my hero costume case with so much emotion that it looked like it was about to snap, both from the anticipation of whether or not i'd passed and also because izuku was holding onto my hand for dear life.
the feeling of being out of control in the situation was one that i'd also started hating. and right now, i felt very out of control.

my heart feels like it's fallen into my stomach as my eyes scan the rows for my name, reading so rapidly that my mind could barely catch up.

"... we passed!" izuku exclaims, quickly throwing his arms around me in a tight embrace.

the both of us jump as the loud and obnoxious inasa stomps over, chin raised high. the two boys stare at each other intensely, a blanket of silence around them as all of the surrounding students turn around and hold their breath, waiting for one of them to make a movement.
"... is this what we look like when we have sharing contests?" izuku whispers.
the corner of my lip quirks up in a smile as i glance at him, despite the movement hurting my cheek. "no wonder why denki thinks it's freaky."
inasa violently slams his head into the dirt, groaning loudly as a small blood splatter marks the ground. "i'm sorry! it's my fault that you didn't pass the licensing exam! my focus was too narrow-minded! forgive me!"
shoto's eyebrows furrow as he looks away apprehensively. "you're fine. i was the one who got us off to a bad start."
