- THE END OF summer brings overcast skies, rainy days, and colder nights as the final months of the year slowly peek around the corner. several bright billboards display the week's weather, all with temperatures not reaching the highs they used to.
my eyes scan around the streets, the breeze flowing through my hair as it rests on my shoulders and carrying the scent of rain with it. togata had the skip in his step that izuku and i had come to know all too well, grinning cheerily at the civilians that passed.
"oh, hey, it's heroes!" a woman exclaimed, pointing at the three of us.
izuku's arms swing at his sides, the corners of his lips turned up in an awkwardly forced smile. "this is kinda nerve-wracking."
togata nudges him with his elbow. "ah, don't you worry! sir and bubble girl are the ones who're actually watching the target today, so i can teach you all about patrol duty- hey! we forgot something, our hero names! we should know each others, right?"
"oh, yeah, totally!" izuku exclaims, pointing at himself proudly with his thumb. "i'm deku!"
"deku? like 'deck?'" togata's head tilted, a wary smile on his face. "that's weird."
"i'm selene." i said, leaning to the side to see him.
togata gasps, snapping his finger, "now that's a good one! it totally fits you! i'm lemillion- for the number of people i'll save, y'know? can't save 'em all, but i can shoot for saving a million!"
"that's really cool!" izuku said.
my eyes drift back to the street again, before a cold drop of water lands on the top of my head, soaking into my hair. i lift my hand to touch the spot as rain drizzles around me, turning my focus to the overcast sky as more raindrops fall onto my face. my nose scrunches in disgust.
the chill of water falling from the sky forced me to stop walking as i looked up, and then to the side as people took out umbrellas and relied on the thin sheet of fabric to protect them.
"seriously?" a shiver runs along my skin as i curse under my breath, before the body of a small child slams into my side.
i whip around, a sharp and involuntary gasp slipping from my lips as timid ruby eyes peer up at me through long ivory hair, parted around a small horn that poked out the side of her forehead. she fell to the ground with a small "oof," rubbing her side with an arm that was wrapped in bandages.
