AFTER A LATE NIGHT FOR BRIAN, HE was called by Bilkins to go over what Brian's been hearing and seeing. Brian's nerves were eating him alive; his date with Jules wasn't far away, and it wasn't part of the plan; he did it on his own. But that didn't stop Bilkins from wanting to see him.
"My superiors are flying in from D.C. day after tomorrow. I want something to show. Now, we have a top-echelon fence with a lube hose in his mouth, automatic weapons, a jacket full of priors on every one of those Asian punks, a garage full of DVD players, and generally psychotic behaviour." Bilkins gave out information.
"Now, tell me why we shouldn't move on Johnny Tran right now and see where we are when the dust settles." Bilkins asked Brian. "Because all we have is behaviour. Just let me get some hard evidence, because what we have now is just circumstantial—"
"What we have is probable cause." Bilkins cut Brian off. "And truckers arming themselves for some good old-fashioned vigilante mayhem." Bilkins finished, turning away from Brian. "Tell us about Hector, Brian." Tanner said, looking through files.
"No, Hector's still working on the engines for the cars, but the tires don't match. Will some- will someone just get me a cigarette?" Brian asked impatiently. "Get him a cigarette." Bilkins told the guy to his left. "Don't get him a cigarette. I thought you quit." Tanner stated, confused.
"Yeah, I did quit. Just get me a cigarette." Brian said it again as Bilkins repeated it to the guy again. "No!" Tanner said sternly. "Tell me about Toretto." Tanner told the blonde "Well, I told you, I think he's too controlled for this. I mean, what? Going suicidal on semi-trucks? No way. I mean, maybe his buddy Vince, but he's too stupid to pull it off." Brian said, trying to leave Jules out of it.
Brian knew that if Jules had any clue about the trucks, she'd be able to pull it off. He'd never admit it out loud, but he looked at her file. Julianna Rose Toretto, born October 4, 1979, went to school for law, dropped out, and has been a racer since she was sixteen. She was a smart girl, smart enough to become a cop or a lawyer if she really wanted to.
"I think the kids sister's blurring your vision." Muse said, with arms crossed. "What did you say?" Brian asked, getting pissed off. "I don't blame you. I'd get off on her surveillance photos too, buddy." Muse said. Brian charged forward, pushing Muse to the ground.
"Knock it off!" Tanner told Brian, pulling him back. "What, are you going native on me, Brian?" Tanner asked. Brian didn't answer but just stared Muse down. "Have you read Toretto's file lately?" Tanner asked from behind. "Yeah. I memorized that file." Brian answered, not taking his eyes off Muse.
"Yeah, well, read it again. No, better still, take a look at these." Tanner said, opening a sealed package. "Remember I told you about the guy he nearly beat to death?" Tanner dropped photos of a beaten man on the counter. "Toretto did this with a three-quarter-inch torque wrench. He's a model of self-control." Tanner explained.
"I need a few days." Brian said after viewing the pictures, he walked past Tanner and Muse before stopping at Bilkins. "I need a few more days." He said this, making himself clear to everyone.
