WHILE DOM PAID HIS FINAL respects and goodbye to Vince, the rest of the group sat quietly, waiting for the man in charge to give them orders. Even Elena and Hobbs.
Dom could be seen as careless or even reckless, but he was never heartless. In fact, he was the opposite. Everything he did was for his family, for their safety. But he had just lost another member and time was closing in.
Dom covered Vince's body with a sheet before marching back to the group with determination. "We need to move. We don't have that much time." He said.
"I got us a flight out. We can leave Rio in the rearview in the next five hours." Han said, trailing behind Dom.
"Not to run away." He stated. "To finish the job."
"Are you crazy, Dom? We can't." Gisele shook her head.
"It's a suicide mission." Rome added, getting off the stairs he was sitting on and pointed to Vince's body. "That's your man over there on the table. The plan is busted! This is bullshit, man. Reyes knows we're coming!"
"He's right. They tripled the detail at the police station. It's going to be a wall of gunfire." Tej agreed as Jules bowed her head in defeat.
"Reye's doesn't get away with this," Dom said, disagreeing with his team.
"It's a trap, man. You know that." Han sighed, trying to level with the man.
"Dom, listen to them. Run, before it's too late. Leave Rio. You can be free." Elena piped in, making Jules snap her head in their direction. She never thought a cop would give advice on when to flee, let alone to her brother.
"Running ain't freedom. You should know that." He told her before looking back at the group. "You know you're all free to make your own choices."
Jules sighed, rolling her eyes a little. Her brother had a tendency to guilt trip in subtle ways and him turning his back to them was one of them.
"I'm in." Hobbs called, shocking the whole group, even Dom, who looked back at the man. "I'll ride with you, Toretto. At least until we kill that son of a bitch."
Dom's lips perked up at the newfound alliance. "So what's the plan, Dom? We can't just go sneaking around anymore." Brian said, looking between his girlfriend and friend.
It was clear that the team was back on Dom's side, ready to engage in another life or death situation. "We don't sneak. The only thing he cares about is his money. We pull that, we pull him." He told them.
Jules found herself away from the action to track the cars with Mia. While her sister stayed on watch of the vehicle and their movements, Jules was to get them to safety and guide them through traffic.
She watched as the men successfully, kind of, escaped Reyes building with the vault, but were being chased by cops and others. "Call it out, Jules." Dom's voice echoed from the walkie.
Jules held the walkie close to her mouth as she spoke, watching Mia point out directions on the screen. "You're good for the next two blocks." She told them as Mia punched in keys. "Go right."
"Got it." She heard Brian respond and watched as they followed her direction on the screen.
"Well, you're doing something right so far. Every corrupt cop is right behind you. I'd suggest stepping your foot on the gas a little more." She told them, placing her elbows on the table as Mia chuckled.
"What's the best route?" Brian asked.
Jules looked at Mia for an answer. "Straight for half a mile on Rua Fonseca, then left." Mia told her.
Jules pressed the button on her walkie. "Keep going straight for a half mile on Rua Fonseca and then turn left."
"That ain't going to work." Dom said in and both girls' heads snapped to the screen.
"Spikes ahead, Dom. We got spikes!" Brian yelled.
"We're going right!" Dom told his sister.
"Nah, it's too tight. We're not going to fit." Brian argued.
Jules pressed her button. "I don't care if it's too tight. Make it work!" She ordered, and both men followed through with curse words coming from their end.
Mia took the walkie from Jules, putting it close to her lips. "Guys, I am hearing all this chatter. Did you just take out a bank?"
The men don't answer, focused on their escape. "Two inbound." Dom said.
"You've got an alley on your left." Jules told them and watched their trackers move. Jules could hear the sound of gunshots and tires screeching, worrying her a little.
"They got a group after them." Mia said.
"Okay boys, you got company coming in from the south. Better make your move." She said into the walkie, drowning out their commotion to focus on what she had to do.
Jules watched as the group of corrupt cops soon became lesser as Han and Rome joined the scene in cop cars of their own. Both of them helped with the escape.
"You've got a ten second window. This is it, all of it matters now." Jules told them. "They're close." She looked at her sister.
"Hey, there's too many of them. We're not going to make it." She heard Brian yell to Dom and her eyes found Mia's immediately. The initial worry is now fully overtaking.
"You're right, we aren't. You are." She heard her brother say.
"What are you talking about?" Brian asked.
It felt like time had stilled. Jules' ear rang and all she could hear was how slowly her heartbeat had gone. She became aware of her slow blinking as she tightened her grip on the walkie. "Lose the vault." She whispered.
She knew they had the fake fault and the real one was on its way, but now she was at risk of losing her brother all over again.
"You're a father now, Brian." Her brother said.
"No, I'm not leaving you. Now you stick with the plan!"
"Lose the vault!" Jules shouted, but her words were never truly heard by the two behind the wheels.
"It was always the plan. Take care of Jules and Mia." Dom said.
Mia grabbed the walkie from her sister as her voice cracked. "Dom, you listen to me now. Okay? You cut loose right now." She ordered.
However, Dom didn't cut loose. Instead, he let Brian's rope free and as his non-biological brother sped off, Dom was left facing Reyes, with the vault tied to his car.
"Brian!" Jules called into the walkie. "What happened? Brian!"
