THE TENSION IN THE CAR WAS undeniable; no one talked. If Jules was being honest, she wished she said no because if Roman said no, she would leave in a heartbeat, but now she was stuck.
By the time the three men and Jules got to the police department, she was on edge; these people were looking for her brother. "You coming, doll?" Roman asked shakily, and Jules nodded in response, stepping out of the car and taking a deep breath.
Jules and Roman walked behind Brian and Bilkins before Roman stopped his steps. "Roman?" She called quietly. "Hey bro, what's going on?" Brian asked, walking to the opposite side of Roman. "I don't know if I should be trusting you, man. I don't know how she can, either." Roman said, looking at Brian.
"Just think of it this way. It's an opportunity for a fresh start. Let's just do this," Brian urges Roman. "We wouldn't need a fresh start if it weren't for you," Roman said as Brian got closer to him. Jules stayed quiet, walking over to Bilkins to let the two men talk.
"Smart move." Bilkins told the girl as she leaned on the glass window. Jules didn't respond as Brian walked past the girl, leaving Roman behind. "I'm not goin' back to Barstow." Roman growled, following behind the three.
Jules stood beside Brian as an Orbit Express vehicle backed into the garage. A tanned, pretty woman appears after opening the back roll-up door. "Brian O'Conner, Julianna Toretto, and Roman Pearce, meet Monica Fuentes." Markham said, looking back at the girl. "Do they have background on Verone?" Monica asked, straight to the point.
"They've been briefed." Bilkins answered. "Good," Monica nodded, jumping out of the Orbit Express. "All right, heres the deal. Verone's looking for drivers. I've arranged for the three of you to join up. I've also hired some thugs. You know, to make it legit." Jules nodded, listening to Monica's every word.
"When do we start?" Roman asked. "Right now." She answered, smiling. "What are we drivin'?" Brian asked, looking over his shoulder. Two men started revealing two beautiful cars. One is a purple 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GTS, and the second is a yellow 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII.
"Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!" Roman whistled, putting a hand out in front of Brian. "Don't even think about takin' the convertible." Roman told Brian, throwing his bag in the car. "It might loosen your mousse," Roman finished. Brian rolled his shoulders, playing it off. "Nah, that's cool. That's too much chrome for me, anyway."
"There's only two," Jules whispered to Monica, confused. "Why should a beautiful girl drive?" Monica answered, smirking, and walked over to Brian's passenger side. "I'll ride with you, cowboy." Monica said to Brian. "Why she gotta ride with you?" Roman asked, bummed. "You got the convertible, plus Julianna. Let's go."
Jules felt knots in her stomach as Brian looked at her. She tore her eyes from him, walking last Roman to the passenger seat. "You ever gonna tell me what happened between you two?" Roman asked, getting in and starting the car.
"Nothing. It's in the past." Jules grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest. Roman chuckled. "Yet you brought the past to the present." 'I guess I did,' Jules thought instead of answering. It was easier to not see him than to have to see him every day.
