Scarlett's POV:
It feels like yesterday that we were sat in this room waiting for me to go through the egg collection procedure. Now we're sat, waiting for Y/n to undergo the embryo transfer. Of the 14 eggs that they were able to take from me, 7 of them are of a high quality grade and are eligible for transfer.
That means that we can go through 7 attempts before needing to go through collecting more eggs. But hopefully, we'll be successful way before then. But it's good to know that we have a good number that are already waiting to be used.
Y/n has been so great through this whole process. She has done everything that Dr Callahan has suggested to help increase our chances of the egg taking. The only thing she is worried about is the stress for opening the café at the end of the week. We knew that it would be tight timing, but we also didn't want to wait for another month before trying.
The both of us have been a bag of nerves all morning. Ava definitely caught on to it this morning but was soon distracted when Gracie turned up with her parents to take them swimming. With the nerves that I feel, I know that Y/n is feeling them a little more. As much as I try and tell her otherwise, she is putting a lot of pressure on herself for this working. If we're not successful, I know that she's going to blame herself and her body. But this whole process is so temperamental, and anything could happen.
We're taken into the same room as I was last week and Y/n changes into her gown and I helped her, just like she had me. Thankfully, I'm allowed to join her in the procedure room so at least I know I was there with her when the baby was conceived, which is a nice thought.
Once we're ready, Dr Callahan takes us through to the procedure room and I help Y/n up onto the bed. "Ok Y/n. This procedure won't take long at all. You may feel some discomfort, but the pain should be minimal." She starts explaining and Y/n nods along, taking it all in. "I'll place a tube through your cervix and into your uterus which will be used to guide the syringe that holds the fertilised egg. I'll use this syringe to place the embryo into your uterus." Dr Callahan continues to explain the steps of the procedure.
"Are you ok to begin?" She asks looking to Y/n. She turns her head and looks at me, a nervous smile on her face. "Don't look at me. It's your vagina." I joke making her burst out laughing. "Let's do it." She answers, squeezing my hand a little tighter. I lean forward and place my hand in her hair, knowing how much that helps to calm her.
"Ok Y/n, I need you to place your legs in this stirrups." Dr Callahan helps to guide her legs where they need to be. "Well, this is very humbling." Y/n jokes and I stifle a laugh. "Who knew having a baby would be so glamorous." She continues to joke, which I know she's doing to hide her nerves. "Ok Y/n, I'm going to insert the tube now. This may be a little uncomfortable." Dr Callahan warns her.
My eyes never leave Y/n's face. She winces slightly and her grip tightens around my hand. I place soft kisses to her cheek and whisper to her. "You're doing so good baby." I tell her, a proud smile on my face. "Perfect. Y/n I'm now going to insert the syringe." Dr Callahan talks through as she carries out each step. Something I know that Y/n is very grateful for.
After a few minutes Dr Callahan pushes back on her chair and smiles at us. "All done. Y/n I just need you to sit with your legs raised for the next 15 minutes. I'll be back in when you're free to leave." Dr Callahan says, leaving us to it. "I'm proud of you babe." I tell her once we're alone. "That is possibly the most undignified thing I've done." She groans, her head falling back to the pillow behind her as I chuckle.
"But think of what is happening in your belly right now. Our baby is hopefully getting comfortable for a 9 month stay." I remind her, my hand moving to rest on her stomach, and that seems to make her smile. "God, I hope this works." She mumbles, her eyes glossing over slightly. "If it doesn't it'll be fine. We can try again. Just because we're not successful doesn't mean that we're not meant to have another child." I reinforce my own thoughts, wanting her to know that she is supported through this all and we're in it together.
