Scarlett's POV:
I quickly run out of the room with Ava on my tail. "She's ready!" I tell our family who look on with wide and excited smiles. "We've got Ava, you go and be with Y/n. Send her our love." Susan tells me, whilst holding her arms open to Ava. I watch as Ava instantly falls into a hug with her grandma. "I'm going to be a big sister soon!" Ava shares excitedly.
Before getting caught up in the moment in front of me, I dash back into the room to see Y/n glaring at me, making me stop in my tracks. "Where did you go?" She grimaces and I smile awkwardly at her. "I was telling everyone you're starting to deliver and made sure Ava was taken care of. We don't want to traumatise her." I defend. "Next time tell me before you run out of the room when she says it's ready!" She grumbles.
I rush to her side and take her hand in mine. "Sorry babe, I was just so excited." I apologise, pressing a kiss to her head. The room is filled with a mix of anticipation, excitement and nerves as my eyes lock on to my wife, laid in the hospital bed, ready to bring our son into the world. I wish I could do more to help with the pain she is going through, but I can't. Instead, I can give her my unwavering support and encouragement throughout this experience which is going to change our lives.
Dr Callahan arrives a minute or so later, in a gown and with a team in tow. "Ok Johanssons. Are we ready to bring this little life into the world?" She asks. My smile is wide, but I laugh when I hear a grunt from Y/n. "Get this baby out of me. I love him, but he has overstayed his welcome." She complains, making us all laugh.
"Right, Y/n. You're going to start getting the urge to push with your next contraction. I want you to bear down with everything you have and stop when I say so. If you have any discomfort at all, more than what is expected, please let us know." Dr Callahan explains and Y/n nods, grabbing my hand and holding it tightly. "You're going to do amazing Y/n. I love you so much and I can't thank you enough for doing this." I express. She smiles at me but then her face contorts. "Ok, I think he wants out now." Y/n says, turning to Dr Callahan.
"Ok. Push Y/n." Dr Callahan instructs. At her words, Y/n scrunches up her face and groans through her contraction. Her grip on my hand is like face but it soon losens with the end of her contraction. "Stop. That's great Y/n. Take a moment to do your breathing exercises." Dr Callahan instructs. I gently turn Y/n's face towards me and do the exaggerated breathing techniques to help her through. "You're amazing." I remind her and she smiles up to me. But once again, it doesn't last long. Her grip on my hand tightens painfully, once again, as Y/n's face glows with determination as her contraction washes over her.
With each contraction her grip on my hand tightens painfully so, but I won't complain. It's nothing compared to what she's going through. "Ok, breathe with me again." I instruct my wife, but she pushes at me. "Fuck off! They are not helping!" Y/n complains. I fight back a laugh at her profanity, but it seems Dr Callahan doesn't. "Do you get a kick out of seeing women in pain Doc?" Y/n asks with a raised eyebrow, making Dr Callahan gulp slightly. "Of course not Y/n. I do however enjoy watching them taunt their partners." She smirks.
With the next contraction Y/n calls out. "Oh fuck! Get him out of me!" That was clearly a painful contraction. I try to offer her soothing words and gentle touches to give her any kind of comfort. Sometimes it helped, others it doesn't, and I earn a glare or a profanity in my direction.
"Brilliant Y/n. You are doing so well. A couple more pushes and we'll have his head." Dr Callahan encourages, which seems to calm Y/n. "Sorry." She pants as I dab at her head with a cold cloth. "I love you so much. I don't want you to fuck off." She clarifies but I gently shush her. "I know. I love you too. You swear at me all you want if it helps. But I promise I'm not going anywhere." I reassure her.
