The pitch starts to clear out as the fans head home. I keep trying to find my parents so I can properly avoid them, but I haven't seen them since the game started. Maybe they went home? I also haven't seen George. I'm not sure why he came, but I doubt he'd want to stick around.
I head to the locker room to change before heading out with the team. We're going to go celebrate the win together. The plan is to meet up tonight at a nearby pub. Apparently the first round is on the house for the team after a win.
I quickly shower and throw on a pair of shorts and a sparkly crop top, swapping my cleats for my usual sneakers. I also douse myself in deodorant, worried that the sweat smell will linger even after the shower. I run into Alex on my way out of the showers.
"Warning, your parents are waiting outside for you." He gives me a sympathetic smile.
"Great." I say, completely deadpan. I really did not want to go out there yet.
"Martin said you could ask him if you need anything." Alex throws off his robes and jersey, preparing for his own shower. "I'd take him up on that."
"Thanks." I grab my bag from my locker and head out. I peek around the corner to see the situation. My parents are very pointedly in the middle of the field. Mom is talking to the current Captain of the Harpies, and it appears that she's crying. This keeps getting better and better.
"You headed out?" Martin's deep voice asks from around the corner. I poke my head out a bit more to find him leaning against the wall next to the locker room. I wonder if he was waiting for me?
"Do I have to?" I whine, not wanting to see them. Unfortunately, you couldn't apparate in the stadium, so I'd have to leave before I could fully escape.
"They aren't going anywhere as long as you're here." His voice is low, and he doesn't look at me, not wanting to make my presence known.
"I know. Maybe I can just fly out of here before they can stop me?" I ponder and Martin laughs.
"You could try."
"Ugh." I groan. "Just come with me and act like we have somewhere to be. Maybe if we're fast, I can get away before they notice."
Martin nods, offering his arm and we book it out of there. I'm halfway to the exit before I hear my mom calling my name.
"Hazel! Hazel Taylor, your mother is talking to you!" Mom screeches, but I'm too far to turn around now. With another glance to Martin, we pick up the pace. As soon as I'm out of the anti-apparating wards, Martin releases me.
"See you in a few?" He asks, making sure I'm meeting them at the pub.
"Wouldn't miss it!" I grab my wand and vanish, landing a bit messily in my flat. At least now I have the opportunity to put on some make up and make my hair presentable. The wind really put some knots into it. I take fifteen or so minutes to freshen up before apparating at the chosen destination.
Most of the team is already there and cheers loudly at my appearance.
"Hazel! You made it! Didn't get trapped by the parents I see." Alex slings an arm around my shoulder, holding a drink in his other hand.
"Thanks to Martin." I spot Vivian a few seats down. "I need to talk to the Captain. Give me a minute?"
"Sure sure." Alex moves his arm and I approach the woman.
"Hey, Captain." I say, trying not to show my nerves.
"Taylor, sit." She points to the seat next to her as she takes a drink. I do as I'm told. "What were you thinking?"
