Edwin and I spend the rest of break focusing on perfecting my swings and predicting the bludgers. To other it may seem tedious or exhausting, but for us it was great. His mom takes us to the platform when its time for classes to start again. As we enter platform nine and three quarters, I'm relieved when I see Fred and George at the station with their family. Mr. Weasley looks a bit worse for wear, but the rest seem to be getting on fine. Edwin hurries off when he spots the rest of the team. I'm searching around for Mia. I finally find her talking to a group of Slytherins. I give her some space as to not interrupt. When she's finished, she spots me and heads over."Hey! How was your holiday?" We hug, squishing Wheezy, the magpie, between us. I had named him after the proposed name of the twins new store. It felt only fitting.
"Mine was good. I spent half of it with Edwin. I think I'll be able to do better next game. Finally get us a win." I tell her as we pull apart.
"Oh? You spent the holiday with Edwin?" A mischievous twinkle enters her eye and I know what she's thinking.
"I'm not interested in him like that, calm down." I roll my eyes. "What were you up to?"
"Mostly just spent it with my family. Oh, and I ran into Draco at Diagon Alley." She says nonchalantly, but I notice a tinge of pink on her cheeks.
"Isn't he in fifth year?" I point out that he's two years younger.
"So what?" She flips her hair over her shoulder. "I can be friends with a fifth year."
"Fair enough." I drop it, uneasy about all of it. Not for the reasons many people would suspect though. I don't care that he's a Slytherin. What I feel uneasy about is how that stupid game of mash all those months ago seemed to be onto something.
The trip back is chiller than most of the train rides. Everyone seems apprehensive about returning to Umbridge's domain. Nervous students clutch at scarred hands and duck whenever the inquisitor squad kids pass.
"How are we supposed to focus on NEWTs in this environment." I grumble, flipping through my history text.
"Right? Next she'll be kicking us out off the library. 'Reading encourages individual thought. From now on, anyone caught in the library, will be henceforth, expelled.'" She imitates Umbridge's voice causing me to giggle.
"Wouldn't be surprised." I look out the window at the passing country side, trying not to think about all the things wrong in the wizarding world.
We arrive back at the castle, and unpack. As I'm finishing up, Mia mysteriously disappears. I smirk to myself and decide to follow suit. I head down to the kitchens to use the passage to the Gryffindor Portrait hole. It's dark, so I cast Lumos to be able to see. It's a lot shorter than taking the castle halls, and I arrive very quickly. I slip out undetected and casually wait by the portrait for Fred. After about ten minutes, the portrait swings open and a familiar head of hair pops out. I push off of the wall before realizing that it's George, not Fred.
"Oh, hey Hazel." He gives me a charming smile, pushing back his hair from his face. "Come to see me?"
"Um..." I can't tell him that I'm actually here to jump his brother's bones, so I nod. "Yeah, that's exactly what I'm here for."
My words cause him to blush.
"Really"
"Yeah. What are you up to?" I fall in step beside him as we start down the hall.
"I was actually about to head to the library." He gestures in the general direction.
"You. You are going to the library? Whatever for?" I giggle, sure the boy is up to something. Surely George Weasley has no business in the library before classes even start.
