I grip Teddy's hand tightly as he drags me through the crowds. Behind us, a rather large gathering of people struggled to keep up, all insistent to see the boy off to his first day of Hogwarts.
Fred gives up on guiding the twins through the crowd and scoop them up, making chasing us easier.
"Dad!" Charlotte yells, clinging to Fred's coat desperately. "You're going to drop me!"
"No he's not." Zyke argues, grinning.
"Mum!" Charlotte whines.
"Mum!" Zyke mocks.
Finally in front of the train, Teddy stops. He gapes up at the large red engine, eyes shining with awe. Fred finally catches up, rather out of breath as he place the two five year olds down. Charlotte and Zyke had joined our family four years ago. Muggleborns placed in an orphanage after strong bouts of accidental magic had their bio parents believing they were cursed.
Despite the fact that we didn't name them ourselves, Charlie always insisted Charlotte was named after him. So much so that the girl now introduced herself as "Charlotte, named after Uncle Charlie."
"Come on, Teddy, let's get your trunk sorted." I put a hand on his back, leading him to the loading bay. After handing it off, I crouch down in front of him.
"Do you have your reading glasses?"
"Yes, mum."
"Wand?"
"Yes?"
"Money for the trolley."
"Mum." He whines, too excited to wait through all of my questioning.
"Snackbox?" Fred asks with a grin, winking at Teddy.
"Got it." Teddy winks back.
"Fred, you promised!" I scowl at my husband.
"I promised not to send him with any dungbombs!" Fred argues, "didn't say anything about snackboxes."
"Be nice to Headmistress McGonagall, alright?" I kiss Teddy on the top of his currently blue hair.
"Write to me sometime in the next few days." I remind him, trying not to get misty eyed as the baby I raised prepares to leave me for months. "I know you'll be busy, but it is really important."
"Where's dad?" Teddy asks, looking around for Harry, who he had left behind in his rush to get here.
"Right here!" Harry burst through the crowd of parents, Ginny, Andromeda, and Draco behind him.
"Got your wand?" He asks the boy who rolls his eyes.
"Mum already went through the list." Teddy informs him.
"What about the dungbombs I gave you. You remember those?" Harry winks much like Fred did the moment before.
"You've got to be kidding me." I groan, hanging my head in defeat. Fred smirks, clearly pleased with the turn of events.
The train whistle blows a five minute warning.
"Alright, hugs!" I demand, and Teddy obliges, going down the line, hugging everyone who came to see him off. He stops at the end, looking at me and Harry, the makeshift parents life decided to give him.
"I love you." He says, tears filling his eyes as they shift back and forth between my blue and Harry's green.
"We love you too." Harry and I wrap him in a hug together, but of us not ready to send him off.
"Papa Remus and Mama Tonks would be so proud of you." I whisper in his ear, giving him a final squeeze.
At long last, the final warning sounds and Teddy climbs onto the train. Fred holds me tightly as we watch it slowly pull away. A window nearby opens and blue hair blows wildly as Teddy peers out.
"BYE MUM! BYE DAD!"
We wave as the train picks up speed, leaving for Scotland.
"Well, I got to go. I promised Mia I'd take Scorp to the park after." Draco announces, dropping a kiss on the top of Andromeda's head. "You wanna come?"
Andromeda nods, taking her nephew's hand.
"Speaking of kiddos, we've got to pick up ours at the Burrow before they drive Mum crazy." Ginny put a hand on Harry's shoulder.
"Mum, can we get ice cream?" Zyke asks, looking up at me with his big brown eyes.
"Please!" Charlotte add her own puppy eyes.
"Please!" Fred crouches, joining the line.
"As long as dad buys!" I tease, scooping up Charlotte into my arms.
"Yay!" They all cheer, bounding across the platform. I take off after, not one to be left behind. As I catch up with the boys, I grab Fred's free hand. Grinning, we head to get ice cream for the fourth time that week.
