I walk down the hallway, off to the headmaster's office after a long day of grading potions homework. I confident Slughorn has actually been assigning more now that he doesn't have to grade them. Gotta love that for me.
As I pass by one of the classrooms, I hear voices inside. After deliberating for a moment, I hide around the corner, listening.
"That stupid Weasley girl keeps getting in the way." Alecto growls, slamming her hand down loudly. "I swear, one of these days I'm going to catch her and use her as an example for the killing curse."
"You'll have to find her before I do, then." Amycus chuckles darkly. My stomach churns as his tone sends terror through my body. An image of the dark library flashes through my mind, and I shove it down, hurrying away from the classroom. I change my route, swinging by Snape's room instead of his office. I rush to my side of the room, grabbing my password pen and a piece of paper.
"Arnold." I whisper as I uncap it, activating the password enchantment. I scribble down a note for Ginny."
'G,
Please be careful. The Carrows have it out for you. Maybe try to lay low for a few days until things calm down. You aren't any use to anyone dead.
H'
I shove the note in my pocket after the ink fades and head to the kitchens to deliver it. After it's tucked in the passage, I go to Snape's office as I originally intended. I find the man pacing the floors, robes billowing dramatically.
"Is everything okay, Sir?" I tentatively ask, standing just inside the doorway.
"Obviously not." He snaps, glaring at me.
"Oh, sorry." I squeak, fear shooting through me. My heart rate speeds up, and my palms sweat. I try to remind myself that I have no reason to think Snape would ever lay a hand on me, but that only does so much. I don't move, barely breathing as I watch the angry man storm around the room. Should I make a run for it?
"Sit." He demands suddenly, pointing to my chair.
"Yes, sir." I scurry over, and sit in my chair, back straight with my hands folded in my lap. I keep my eyes down, focusing on my breathing. Stop panicking you stupid idiot. My internal chastising does nothing.
Snape turns on his heel, marching up to the desk. He slams his hands down angrily, causing the furniture to shake. My breath catches and a loud whooshing noise fills my ears. I grind my teeth painfully as tears fill my eyes. There's no reasoning with my panic at this point. Even my reasonable side is scared. I've never seen Snape like this.
Snape is looking in my eyes. He opens his mouth, saying something to me, but I can't hear him over the noise in my ears. I just stay perfectly still, not even breathing at this point. I think he might be yelling at me, but I can't be sure. I feel something on my face, and I realize I'm crying. The edges of my vison start to blur, and I can feel each heart beat in my chest as if it's my last.
Snape's expression shifts and he leans in closer. I still can't hear what he's telling me. He reaches out a hand, and I flinch. But instead of the impact I am expecting, my vision fades completely as I pass out.

I wake up to a light being shone in my eyes. I blink and swat at the wand in my face.
"Oh, thank Merlin!" A familiar voice whispers.
"Ginny?" I whisper back, carefully sitting up.
"Yeah. Are you okay? I saw Snape bring you in earlier and I was worried. Did he hurt you?" She sits in the chair beside my bed. Her wand still glowing in the dark room from her lumos charm.
