I hurry down the hallway to Kingsley's office. My robes billow slightly behind me as I march along. I am hoping that the summons is good news. That my potion is enough to start getting some of the restrictions on lycanthropes lifted. That maybe instead of being trapped in a sickening silver cell, that they would be able to roam a forest or something. That they could spend their moons as packs and families and not prisoners.
I approach the man as Kingsley's reception deck.
"Hello, the minister asked to see me?" I smile politely.
"Uh huh." He sighs, "name?"
"Hazel Taylor." I state clearly.
"No, not on the list."
I grit my teeth.
"Hazel Carrow." I snap, furious that I am still stuck with that last name. Unfortunately, according to everything I could find, I am stuck with "Carrow" until I remarry.
"Are you sure about that?" He huffs, checking his notes once more.
"I will not hesitate to set you on fire." I hiss, leaning over his desk. "Now let him know I'm here."
Looking rather unsettled, the man nods and does as he's told. A moment later the door pops open and I'm let inside.
"Thank you!" I beam at him, completely changing demeanors as I slip into the Minister of Magic's office. "Hello, Sir, what-"
I trail off, my jaw hanging open.
"Hey love!"
"Mia!" I practically scream and throw myself at her. Sobbing, I cling to her, as she does the same. "Where have you been? I've missed you so much! You never responded to any of my letters!"
"I'm so sorry. My mums and I ended up in South America for the last couple of years!" She tells me, pulling back enough to look at my face. "I decided to come back when I heard about what happened to you. How is everything?"
"Yeah, it's going alright." I pause. "Which thing did you hear about?"
"What do you mean which thing?"
"What did you hear about me?"
"That you're reforming the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures!" She says. "I'm here to help!"
"Oh! Yes! That!" I smile, realizing I have a lot to talk to her about. "Absolutely! I feel we've made some really good advancements for Lycanthropes this past moon."
"And by we you mean?" She prompts causing me to blush.
"Me. But now that you're here, it's a "we."" I wink, so incredibly thrilled to have her home. I missed her so much.
"Carrow, why don't you take the day off. Seems like you have a lot to catch up your new colleague on." Kingsley smiles at me. I easily return it.
"Thank you, Sir!" I beam, grabbing Mia's arm. "I'll be back bright and early tomorrow, promise!"
"Didn't doubt you would be." He chuckles as I pull Mia out of his office. The door closes itself behind us.
"Okay, so coffee?" I ask, turning to Mia. "We've got a lot to talk about."
"I'd say. Since when is your name Carrow?" She frowns, then she puts something together. "Are you married?"
"Not anymore." I grimace. "I promise to tell you all about it though."
And I do.
We find a cozy muggle coffee shop and park there for the morning, spending the next few hours talking about the last few years.
