69. Nothing but an empty file

"I left Can and Miss Deren alone in that house, JJ."

"Okay, you've been over that a few times now, and I get it," JJ holds up his hands to stop her. "But I can't understand something else, where did the pages that were in the file go?"

"Forget about the file JJ!" Sanem groans in exasperation. "I'll worry about that later. Can is the one that's busy flying away. Can! He looked me in the eyes and then flew right into Miss Deren's arms!" She grabs his arm and starts pulling. "Come with me."

"Where are we going?"

"We're going to Can's house. I can't leave them alone in there."

"But didn't you just leave? What are you going to say when you go back in there?"

"I won't go in. You will."

He reams back and stops, making her nearly trip. "What?! No way! I will not go into that house. It's impossible! Are you crazy?! What will I say?!"

"Think of something," Sanem growls and pulls his arm. "Say you were worried and came to check on him. Say anything just to get in!"

"And if he asks why I came this late?"

"Say you couldn't sleep!"

"What? You want me to stand in front of Mr Can and say that I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about him? He'll think I'm a nut case."

"He thinks that already."

"Sanem," JJ frowns.

"Fine. Okay, that will be bad, I guess," Sanem admits and sighs. "Okay, we'll think of something else on the way, just come on."

"You're always getting me in trouble," JJ huffs but walks faster.

Ten minutes later, they're standing on Can's doorstep and Sanem glares at him.

"JJ, ring the bell."

"I can't. You do it. I'm leaving." He turns and she stomps her foot, getting in his way.

"You can't leave," she hisses and slaps his arm. He slaps her back and she slaps him again. "What are you - " He slaps her three times and she slaps him back. "Stop it! What are you doing?" They slap each other while she tries to keep him from running, pushing him to the door.

"I can't."

"Ring the bell!"

"I can't!"

She reaches around him and presses the button.

"Ah, why'd you do that?!"

"Stay here and tell - "

"Don't push me like that! Sanem!"

"JJ!"

They turn around each other, her pushing and him pulling her back when she tries to hide around the corner. "No, don't leave me!"

"Let go!"

"You can't leave me!"

JJ manages to get on her other side and dives into the bushes by the house just as the door opens and Sanem is bent over, her hands still outstretched to try and grab him.

Can looks down at her and she swallows, slowly rising and breathing out a small chuckle.

"Uhm... It..."

"What?"

"I forgot it...you know, it." What are you saying Sanem?!

"If you're talking about the empty file, I threw it away."
