Sitting in Aylin's kitchen that morning, Emre stares at his coffee blankly, turning the cup in his hands. He didn't sleep a wink and he wasn't sure what he was going to do next.
Aylin comes down ten minutes later with a smile. "Good morning."
"Good morning," he mutters.
She sighs silently, walking past him at the table to get coffee. "You seem like you got up on the wrong foot."
"I couldn't sleep. And you're too cheerful considering." He takes a sip of his coffee for the first time.
"You're wrong. I couldn't sleep either, Emre," she comes and sits down opposite him. "I actually spent the whole night thinking about ways to get us out of this mess, you know, and how I can get the agency back under our control? Or rather, how we can... And then I realized that the answer has been under our noses this whole time." Emre looks up at her and she grins. "You have to call your dad," she shrugs.
Emre blinks and then laughs darkly, shaking his head. "Don't be ridiculous this early in the morning Aylin."
"Will you hear me out before you start scoffing? Your father owns 40% of the agency, right?"
He nods, he turns to face her. "You do know my brother controls every one of those shares, don't you?"
"Yes, but I also know he most likely has no idea what's been going on. Call Aziz and tell him the agency is in trouble and that Can's been making a complete mess of things this side. Then ask him to put you in charge instead."
"Aylin, do you even hear yourself?" Emre laughs again. "Why don't we just go to Can directly and tell him our plan? Hm? Because my father will call him and Can will tell him everything I did. My father will have a heart attack if he ever finds out. Is that what you want?"
She chews on her lip thoughtfully for a second, drinking her coffee.
"My father made his choice about who he wants to be in charge clear before he left," Emre stares at his coffee. "I won't ask him anything."
"Alright, fine, forget about your father then. Call your mother. She'll definitely understand and take your side in this."
"You don't get it do you, my brother doesn't talk to our mother."
"Even better. He won't know what's happening until it happens."
"If I call her for help he'll just hate me more. What does that fix then? Do you want him to write me off completely?"
"He has already." Emre shakes his head and Aylin sighs. "Emre, you're too weak when it comes to Can. You need to think about the years you've put into this agency. Can isn't talking to your mother, meaning he isn't in control of her shares. That means you can be." Do I have to think of everything myself?
"It's not that easy."
"I think it is." Aylin picks up his phone after shrugging. "Call Mrs Huma, talk to her. You'll thank me."
"Aylin, even I show up at the agency with 90% of the shares, my brother won't forgive me. And that's all I care about right now. Getting him to forgive me." She rolls her eyes and purses her lips. "I'm not calling either of my parents, so drop it. Do you understand? Let it go." He takes his phone back and gets up. "I'm leaving. Enjoy your coffee," he says and goes up the stairs.
Aylin turns in her chair and follows him with her eyes. Damn you! She huffs quietly and grabs an apple, pouting while she takes a big bite and glares at the refigerator.
She waits for a good while before she goes upstairs to get her own phone and scrolls through her contacts until she finds the name she wants. If you won't call, then I will. I'm tired of this attitude. Smiling, she walks out to the patio and sips her coffee, her phone to her ear as she waits.
