Chapter 33: Between the Years

Rudy POV

Getting to go home after the birth of my son just felt amazing. I am just excited to bring our bundle of joy and I could not have asked for anything more.I couldn’t wait till I got home after a long week at the medical clinic. 

Time went on and Finnick and I learned how to be parents away from the extra help from the nurses that helped out at the medical clinic. The process was a hard learning curve, but we got it down into a routine. We sent a schedule on who will wake up in the middle of the night to change a diaper or do a feeding. Everything was a fun experience and getting to raise our baby is the most wonderful thing in the world. We just enjoy the time we spend with our little one, raising him, and watching him grow. 

Two months had gone by with a little Caspian home with us. Caspian has grown a little bigger and is a happy and healthy little boy. However, the day of the 70th hunger games was here. Both Finnick and I had to say good-bye to little Caz so we could attend the reaping as previous victors of the hunger games. It was hard for us to leave him after being with him constantly the past two months. We didn’t want to leave him, but we knew he would be in good hands with my mother and father looking after him or a short while. 

After the reaping was finished, we went back home to meet up with my parents. Just like the book's history Annie Cresta was chosen as a tribute for the 70th hunger games. Also, Finnick was chosen to be a mentor for this year's games. I was a little worried about what Annie would try to do with someone else's husband, but I know Finnick is a fateful spouse.  So, I did not need to worry about him growing an attraction to the girl. Plus, we've been married for like 4 years now. Also, we have a little boy together. I should see I am more worried about Annie because sometimes I would see her around staring at me with envy while I am with Finnick. However, I never gave her a second thought and wished her the best of luck. 

Later on, Finnick and I arrived back home. Finnick went on to hold Caz to say goob-bye for a long while. He will be in the capital for a long period of time before he get the chance to see Caz and me again. Caspian and I will miss Finnick, but we know he will come back home to us. However, it does not mean the waiting around for him to get back is not hard like the previous years. Before Finnick left he handed Caspian to me before giving me a kiss good-bye. Off he went to another year as mentor for the tributes to the hunger games. 

Days went by without Finnick at home with us. Who knew being separated from him would be this hard when we became parents to Caspian. Last year it was just me with my family waiting on him. Now, though, it's our son and I waiting for him to get back. As the days go by. My mother, father, and brother would come by and help me out when I needed it. I really appreciate their help and company. All I can say I was really thankful to have my family by my side when Finnick was not there. 

As the 70th hunger games came to an end and the winner was announced. The winner was, 18 years old, Annie Cresta. Poor girl saw her fellow tribute get their head chopped off in front of her eyes. She only won due to her swimming skills that everyone learns in district 4. She was last on standing or should I say swimming in a tidal wave that whipped out a lot of the remaining tributes. I was happy for her, but looks like she won’t be the same ever again. Just like the books and movies she went into depression and a mental breakdown. 

However, before her games I learned that the little cunt tried to get all handsy with my husband. She was just deluding herself into thinking that Finnick will fall in love with her or even want to be with her when he has a family back at home. I planned to do something about when she, Mags, and Finnick returned from the capitol. However, she was not worth my time to be bothered by her. I just hope she can pick the pisces in her life up and move on living life to the fullest.

People were saying that Annie won her games through the thick of her teeth. Annie’s likeably with the capitol people was very low and she was not the fan favorite to win. Now, she is an insane girl that cannot think straight without breaking out in tears. When she came home to district 4 her parents took her home with them to recover and did their best to help her out. With time she got somewhat better, but she couldn’t face her own shadows let alone be left alone. She did not have Finnick this time around to help her out and console her. That was okay though. 

Finnick was needed somewhere else more. He was needed back at home with his husband and two and half month old baby. Nevertheless, Annie will find a new love interest in my older brother Leo. I can tell Leon fell in love with her when he met her during a festival being held in district 4. When Annie came home from her games, he would go over to her hose to talk her and help her out any way he could. Leon was a love sick puppy who had finally found someone he could love and care for besides his own family. Leon was a handsome man who has been on many dates but never found the one to settle down with. My father and mother kept on nagging him to get married already and give them some grandchildren. On the other hand, Leon just wanted to find someone he could really love and care for. 

Over time Leon and Annie will become closer together and inseparable. I guess I cannot be mean to her anymore. However, I can still hold a grudge while being happy for my brother finding someone he could be together with. At least now I don’t have to worry about her trying to lay a hand on my man. As their relationship grew closer I could tell there will be a wedding in the near future probably when we are in district 13. 

Nevertheless, Finnick and I enjoyed our time we had with one another as well as enjoyed our time with Caspian.Next you knew it our little boy is 4 years old and running around like any other toddler. Caspian grew to be a handsome boy just like his father. He was a splitting image of Finnick, but with a few differences with him having my nose, lips, and ears. He was one happy go lucky kid with a brightest smile on his face. He is one very loved child. Looks like a mini Finnick is in a making, but I do hope he will be his own person as well. 

Our Family life was wonderful and peaceful. Married life was great and still steamy as ever before. Finnick and I are still in love with each other just like the first time we started dating. However, things were about to get crazy and the beginning of Katniss Everdeen's journey will begin very soon.

Finnick and I are ready for the shit storm to come. We were ready as we could be to face the obstacles ahead of us. We promise to one another that the protection of Caspian will always come first. Caspian has become the focal point of both Finnick and I’s lives. Our little boy became our world and we wanted him to grow with both parents by his side and him knowing that we always love him. Caspian and Finnick became my first priority. Without me realizing it, Caspian and I became Finnick’s top priority and he would make sure he will always be by our side. He is willing to do anything to keep us safe and also will never do anything that will jeopardize us; or anything that will make both of us sad. 

Who Knows what the future has in store for us. Maybe meeting our son would  have changed the outcome of Finnick's decision on joining squad 451 and taking on a suicide mission to the capitol. Time will only tell. Let's just hope for the best outcome to occur.
